The Oregon search for defensive lineman has had more twists and turns this year than in several years past combined.
Maloata is on his official visit to Oregon right now.
On Saturday morning however, the Ducks secured a verbal commitment from Corona (Calif.) Centennial defensive end Austin Maloata. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound prep is currently on his official visit to Oregon but offered a few quotes.
"I actually committed to Oregon on Wednesday when they were in my house," Maloata said. "I"m in Eugene right now, I'm actually in my hotel getting ready to take some tours and stuff. I'm going to be a Duck for the next four years."
As it appears, Maloata indicated to Oregon his intent to commit earlier this week, but made it official once he arrived on campus. This is rather customary of Oregon's practices of visiting first before they accept commitments.
What gave Oregon the edge over Washington State and others he was considering?
"Honestly every school that recruited me were all great schools. I would say that my family and I both loved it at Oregon. Especially my dad, as long as he's happy I'm happy."
Maloata is the 18th verbal commit in the 2014 class.
