Mattingly commits to Oregon

Oregon fans either went to bed or woke up to big news regarding the commitment of Danny Mattinlgy. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound prep took his final official visit to Oregon last weekend and after some time decided that's where he would play his college football.

It was believed that Oregon and UCLA were in a heated battle. After his final visit report it sounded like Mattingly was favoring UCLA. However a tip to DuckTerritory following the trip gave Duck fans reason to have hope.

After stepping away from a long time Notre Dame commitment, Mattingly was no longer considering the Irish.

The four-star recruit has been recruited to play linebacker and tight end. Oregon was recruiting Mattingly specific to play linebacker.

This gives the Ducks three linebacker commitments in the 2013 class. Mattingly joins Joe Walker and Tyrell Robinson as future Ducks at linebacker.

Oregon now has 13 commits with the addition of the Spokane (Wash.) Mead four-star.

I don't know why but I always felt if Mattingly visited Oregon the Ducks had a chance with him. I felt his personality and the laid back feel to Eugene would be a great match. I was shocked when he committed to Notre Dame as I felt he would ultimately want to stay closer to home and wasn't serious about Washington which gave Oregon the next best shot IMO.

I felt the same way for some reason, I just knew he would be a duck from the begining.

Great news. If I recall correctly, wasn't Mattingly one of the very first people to be offered during this recruiting cycle? I think that speaks volumes. Looking forward to seeing Danny Mattingly in the green & yellow.

I hadnt watched his film yet but at 6'4'' 6'5'' he looks really really athletic and I think he could easily put some good weight on that frame. I like mattingly a lot, for how big he is his first 3 steps are extremely explosive which is huge for a LB. His play recognition looks really good too, I noticed on a lot of the play action and misdirection he was always moving in the direction he needed to go. This kid is gunna be good :) glad we were able to add him to the class

Mattingly is a gifted athlete and is going to have a great career at Oregon. He'll be a beast in the middle of the Duck defense and will be playing on Sundays after he's done at Oregon.

Mead HS is a pipeline HS go Oregon. Atleast in Track and Field it is. Glad to see it spill over to the gridiron.

We already had an outstanding class in the making. Now Mattingly is the just the start of the final stretch run of top recruits that will commit to the Ducks and round out another amazing class at Oregon.
