The staff has hit the recruiting trail hard this week visiting most of the Oregon commits. In addition to the visits, they also issued some new offers, including one to Devon Allen.
Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy prep Devon Allen is not only a catch for the football staff, he's also a champion hurdler. Originally Oregon offered a track-only scholarship, with the opportunity to walk on the football squad.
"The opportunity to play football and track at Oregon is big," Allen said. "I get to run at a historic venue like Heyward Field for track and play football on a BCS-caliber football team. I loved my visit and Oregon has always been my dream school."
This week the staff re-evaluated Allen and opted to make him a football scholarship offer. Allen said that was a big development for him as Oregon is a program he held in high regard for both sports.
"It's just great that I'm not that far from home and I'll be playing in Arizona for my family to come and see. Once they offered I knew that's where I wanted to play. I talked to my dad and he agreed with my decision and that was it. I talked to coach (Scott) Frost and coach (Mark) Helfrich and they were very excited when I let them know I wanted to be a Duck."
Allen was planning to visit Arkansas next weekend, but will cancel that trip as he is solid on his Oregon commitment.
Oregon now has 14 commits in the 2013 class. Allen joins Darren Carrington as the two wide receiver commits.
