Ducks throttle Huskies 82-57

On a night when there could be many different storylines to explain why Oregon destroyed the Washington Huskies at home to a tune of 82-57 you will find yourself coming back to one underlying theme.

Carlos Emory at Oregon

Carlos Emory was huge all night long in attacking the basket for the Ducks. He finished with a game high 18 points and eight rebounds.

Oregon wanted it more than the first place Huskies.

The Ducks were led by junior forward Carlos Emory who had a career high 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench in 20 minutes of action. Garrett Sim, E.J. Singler, and Devoe Joseph all added 13 points and the Ducks improved to 17-7 and 8-4 in Pac-12 play on the season.

“We needed a game like that,” said Singler following the game. “After losing at Colorado, we needed a big win and to win these two at home. We played with a lot of passion and enthusiasm tonight which really helped us.”

The Ducks were on fire from the tip when Sim started out shooting 3-for-3 with two being deep threes and Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar was forced to call a timeout just 1:30 into the game and down 8-0.

“He was a spark for us tonight, it was a great way to start the game, it was key for us,” added Singler on his teammate Sim.

But it was Emory who stole the show Thursday night playing maybe his best basketball of the season off the bench.

"Carlos really gave us a big lift," said Dana Altman. "His athleticism. He got a couple of those baskets off offensive rebounds."

In fact Emory was almost perfect on the night shooting 6-for-8 from the field with only one bad shot coming on a three in transition.

Garrett Sim at Oregon

Senior Garrett Sim got the Ducks off to a good start scoring the game's first eight points on 3-of-3 shooting.

"I told him, "Bud you are 6-for-6 driving the ball to the basket I am not sure why you want to stop and pop one", said Dana Altman. "Other than that he played good. I thought his focus was really good."

The Ducks dominated in every area of the game Thursday night that left the Washington Huskies looking embarrassingly bad.

Oregon scored 42 points in the paint, scored 20 points off turnovers, 30 points off the bench, and had 16 assists to just 11 turnovers on the night.

Oh and Oregon shot a blistering 64.3-percent from the field in the first half and 56.4-percent overall to Washington's 36.4-percent.

Tony Wroten scored 14 points to lead Washington, which had won five straight and eight of nine but fell into a tie for the league lead with California. C.J. Wilcox added 10 points and six rebounds while Oregon prep Terrence Ross scored eight for the Huskies who fell to 16-8 and 9-3 in league play.

"I thought our enthusiasm and passion tonight really showed, the crowed had great intensity...that is the type of energy you should have at home all the time," said Altman about the mood inside Matthew Knight Arena.

Now the Ducks, 8-4, stand in a three-way tie with Colorado and Arizona for third place in the Pac-12 while Washington is in a two-way tie for first place at 9-3.

Oregon never trailed in the game and led by as many as 27 points during the game.

Dana Altman

Dana Altman coaching till the end of the game, no matter the score.

Oregon's 49 points in the first half was their third highest scoring total this season. The Ducks scored 54 in the first half against Washington State and 51 in the second half against UCLA.

Oregon led at the half 49-26 when Joseph missed a jumper with the game clock winding down to zero and Emory rebounded the miss and tipped it back in as time expired.

It was that kind of night for the Ducks who constantly found themselves in open look situations on offense and swarmed the Washington Huskies on defense.

"We had key defense tonight and made big plays and got rebounds," said Singler who finished with a tie for the game-high eight rebounds. "We knew their scouting report and it really helped us."

It seemed like Oregon knew everything the Huskies were going to throw at them and had a counter-punch for every single jab the Huskies tossed at them.

On the flip side Washington couldn't make any adjustments all night for Oregon's offensive attack and defensive pressure.

The Huskies shot just 2-of-16 from three as the Ducks forced them to beat them from outside instead of inside.

Oregon hosts Washington State Saturday afternoon inside Matthew Knight Arena at 3 p.m.
