The Oregon Ducks opened up their third season under Dana Altman last Saturday at home beating Northern Arizona 83-73. The Vikings won their season opening game over Pacific 77-58 on Friday. Now the two in-state rivals will play each other tonight at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks looked like a program struggling to find chemistry with more newcomers than veterans and Altman talked about progress needing to be made afterwards, "We've got tremendous work to do in every phase of the game."
Saturday senior Tony Woods led four players in double figures with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Singler added 12 points and eight rebounds while freshman Damyean Dotson added 13 points and six rebounds. Fellow frosh Dominic Artis added 10 points, three assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
The Vikings and Ducks will meet for the 12th time in 17 seasons and third straight. Portland State's last win over Oregon came back in 2005-06 when the Ducks fell 54-52 at home.
Last season Oregon trailed Portland State 20-16 before going on an 18-7 run to end the first half to go up 34-27. The Ducks never trailed the rest of the way but things did get interesting when the Vikings got within three with 1:25 left to play. E.J. Singler led Oregon with 19 points and seven rebounds.
