Week 5 Pac-12 Picks

The Ducks were off last week but that didn’t mean my picks for each week had the bye. Last week I posted my first perfect weekend going 7-0, but let me be honest and say the slate wasn’t that difficult. The Pac-12 and the entire country didn’t see a lot of big games for the week four slate. USC pulled out a tough home win over gritty Utah State, Utah went into Provo, UT and got the win, and Oregon State came from behind in shocking fashion for a road win.

My running total for the year is now 31-6.

Colorado at Oregon State

The Buffs have been off for two straight weeks with a bye and then their home game against Fresno State being canceled due to weather. Oregon State comes off a come-from-behind victory at San Diego State and feeling somewhat better about themselves. The Beavers have thrown the ball well with Sean Mannion looking like a potential All-Pac-12 quarterback and Brandin Cooks looking like an All-American at receiver. This game looks like a scoring shootout in the first half and into the second half before Oregon State gets a few key stops on defense in my eyes. Paul Richardson and Brandin Cooks both go over 150 yards receiving in this game for their respected teams.

Oregon State 38 Colorado 27

USC at Arizona State

When you look at Arizona State and start wondering if they can win a big game you have to take a look at where the game is played. If the game is at home I feel much better about ASU's chances. Sun Devil Stadium gets pretty loud for a home game against a big opponent and I expect it’ll be pretty live this weekend. Now USC isn't the traditional USC we all know about but this game feels like an early must win game for both teams. Look for Taylor Kelly to have a big game while USC's offensive struggles continue.

ASU 34 USC 17

Arizona at Washington

This game is between two 3-0 teams who both want to prove to the conference they are for real. With a win the Huskies could launch themselves into the top 15 while Arizona is a win away from cracking into the top 25. Arizona quarterback B.J. Denker has attempted just 55 passes through three games and could have the game fall on his arm. I expect the game to be close till the fourth when Washington gets physical on the line and wins it via the run game. Bishop Sankey will have a big game going for nearly 200 yards rushing.

Washington 45 Arizona 27

Stanford at Washington State

The Cougars are a better team than they've been in years past and I think this game will be close...for the first quarter. A lot was made last week about Stanford's inability to close out Arizona State, but let's remember that was shaping up to be an ass-kicking and let's also not forget ASU is a solid club. Give them an inch and they'll make you pay. Stanford will be focused to come out and get a big win. This game will be won on the ground by Stanford.

Stanford 41 Washington State 24

Cal at Oregon

Cal comes to Eugene with a freshman quarterback and an Air-Raid offense that they hope can keep up with the Oregon offensive machine. Look for freshman Cal quarterback Jared Goff to throw for 300 yards and the Bears to put up points, but in the end it won't come close to competing with Oregon. Mariota has a big day once again and the Oregon defense scores a touchdown.

Oregon 62 Cal 28
