EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Oregon Head Football Coach Chip Kelly has informed Director of Athletics Rob Mullens and the members of the football team that he has accepted the position of Head Coach of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.
In four seasons, Kelly accumulated a 46-7 record and guided Oregon to four consecutive BCS bowl berths and three conference championships, including a 35-17 win against Kansas State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Athletic Director Rob Mullens on Coach Kelly’s departure:

“I want to thank Chip for his leadership and commitment to building on the Oregon Football foundation of excellence. We have enjoyed incredible success over the past four years. I have great respect for Chip, consider him a friend and wish him the best of luck in the NFL. Oregon Athletics has executed two successful head coach transitions in the past eighteen years and each time we continued our ascent. We are focused on identifying a leader who is the right fit to guide Oregon Football."

  • When the news first broke I was as shocked as anybody. Then shock turned to anger. I decided to wait before posting so I wouldn't say something I'd regret. Glad I did. As I see it, the Eagles held all the cards in their initial interview with Chip. He turned them down. I don't think it was about money but about how much control in the decision making process he would have. Eagles open tnterview process again and interview everybody including the ghost of Knute Rockne. No luck. They come back to Chip and now Chip has all the cards. Eagles up the ante, Chip accepts. End of story but not the end of the world. When the dust settles and the shock wears off we will get our man (soon) and will get our commits plus some. The sky did not fall, is not falling and won't fall. Our players and staff have hit the ground running and are in contact with the recruits. They will win the day and we will be fine. Everybody cool your jets, chill out and let the smoke clear. Optimism prevails. We didn't get where we are today by being pessimists. GO DUCKS!!!!
