Oregon explodes on offense vs USC

Oregon vs USC was billed as the game of the year for the Pac-12 and the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans lived up to the billing Saturday night down in L.A.. Yards were given and points were posted by both teams and neither team seemed like they could stop the other until late in the fourth.

Kenjon Barner had a career night vs USC.

Oregon improved to 9-0 on the year and became the clearcut favorite in the Pac-12 as they beat USC 62-51 Saturday evening.

It was a game of career nights for many Ducks and Trojans but for senior running back Kenjon Barner the senior running back had the best of the group. Barner scored five rushing touchdowns and chewed up yards all night long. Barner ate so many yards up that he actually broke his best friend and former teammate LaMichael James' single game rushing record of 288 yards. Barner finished the game 321 yards and five touchdowns on 38 carries.

"He's a warrior," Oregon head coach Chip Kelly said of Kenjon Barner. "He's had an unbelievable impact on this team. He's the one leader of that group and he's really embraced that role and our players follow him. I'm just glad he came back for his senior year."

Freshman quarterback Marcus Mariota finished throwing for 303 yards and four touchdowns with just three misses throwing 20-for-23.

The Ducks racked up 730 yards of total offense which was tops for the USC program.

Junior receiver Josh Huff caught two touchdown passes and finished the night with six catches for 125 yards. De'Anthony Thomas added five catches for 59 yards and a touchdown and junior Daryle Hawkins caught three balls for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Barner's 304 yards were the most USC had given up rushing in a single game since 1996 when Penn State running back Curtis Enis' 241 yards.

Oregon jumped out to a 21-3 lead at the end of the first quarter but the USC Trojans stormed back in the second and went into halftime 34-24 when Matt Barkley connected with Nelson Agholor on a 74-yard touchdown strike.

From there the offensive shootout was on. Both teams scored 14 points in the third quarter to go into the fourth with Oregon leading 48-38.

After a five-yard touchdown run by Barner to put the Ducks up 55-38. Oregon defense got a stop and forced a USC punt and the Oregon Ducks got the separation they were looking for. From there the Ducks were able to pull away for good. Barner added a late touchdown, his fifth to make it 62-45 and then Marqise Lee scored a touchdown with just 1 second left for the final score of 62-51.

Matt Barkley finished with 484 yards passing on 35-of-54 and five touchdowns but he did throw two interceptions. Lee finished the night with 12 catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
