Hyatsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic linebacker Sam Lebbie is one of several talented recruits on roster. The 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker has five early offers from Illinois, Rutgers, Maryland, Vanderbilt and West Virginia. In addition to those offers he is hearing from several top programs such as Oregon, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Miami and Florida.
Lebbie has the skills to play inside and outside linebacker and said coaches are recruiting him for both positions.
He recently took a trip to Rutgers for their junior day, and he plans on returning Apr. 16 for spring practice.
"Hands down Rutgers is showing me the most early interest right now," Lebbie said. "They are making a good impression on me with the way they are recruiting me and they are my top school right now. I don't have any timeline for committing. I'll know it when it feels right."
Lebbie said he is open to any distance including Oregon, USC and other programs in the West.
"West coast, East coast doesn't matter to me," he said. "I'm just looking for a stable coaching staff and their track record of putting players into the NFL. I plan on majoring in criminal justice so I will be looking into that program."
His coaches love his tenacity on the field. Lebbie claims he loves to hit people and it shows on film.
