Depth chart not an issue for McEvoy

Tanner McEvoy

McEvoy is the only known QB Oregon is targeting.

Arizona Western C.C. quarterback Tanner McEvoy talks about his upcoming trip to Eugene and how depth chart will effect his decision.

    • Our whole recruitment of him is really interesting. It means the staff could be expecting Bennett to transfer/change positions so this is to shore up depth, but I wonder how he'll fit in with J-Rod and Lockie there.

    • This dude may end up Quacking! I'm kind of shocked that a JC QB would have any interest in us, being MM is only a RsF and is pretty good ( for those that live under a rock). But I like his attitude about our depth....he wants to and feels as though he can compete. I could name a couple of schools in our own backyard (the pups, wazzu, beavis) that should be after him....cause their qb was shaky last year. Oh well!

The Doogs have bunch of young QBs (Miles, Lindquist, Williams) who are all going to fight to replace Price. Wazzu and Beavis need help though.

I know J-Rod had a solid ranking coming out of HS, but I have to tell you I'm concerned with 2 things:
      1) his mobility post-injury
      2) decision making

I saw him at The Opening at Nike and I think he had like 5 pick sixes. On paper and film, though, he looks like he could be a good QB in Oregon's system! Not trying to stir up the pot, just pointing out what my friends and I noticed...

It'll definitely be something to watch. I get why the staff is wanting McEvoy, it's just interesting.

If they land Wilkins as well next year there will be some battles to watch when Marcus leaves.

    • Yeah I like his attitude, I mean you can never have too many experienced QBs ! It would be nice to have this kid come in and take the 2nd string and let JRod and Locke get another year of learning under their belt. If he does end up a duck, look for possibly Locke to think about leaving. BB could switch to RB/WR and do the "wildcat"

Ah yes, but isn't Washington "always loaded with young talent?"

Every year they finish 7-6 is another "young" year.

    • Would be a nice get if BB indeed transfers. Not sure if J-Rod or Lockie are ready to step in if MM goes down. I'd feel more comfortable with another guy available.

    • BB should leave. I want to to watch him when he is full time at the QB position and see what numbers he can put up.

    • QB's at Oregon are always 'one injury away' IMO. Definitely always a shot to be 'the guy' in the Ferrari of offenses on a top national team.

WVU is also a great program, but as McEvoy noted, you don't walk in anywhere being handed a starting job.

I'd love to see him as a WR, safety or OLB here if there's any chance of him staying though.

    • Be careful of what you wish Ray. Jhop is right, one injury away. Look at Harper, kid was stud here and there. Lucky for us they didn't have more talent like him.

I too would like to see him ball out someplace but would rather him do it here if the aforementioned, God forbid happened.

    • It will be a long time before the memories of Dennis Dixon go away. We were headed to the Natty and "BOOM" just like that went nowhere. I think we need a minimum of 3 strong QBs ready to go.

    • Hate to bring this up, but ... Mariota is eligible to jump, after next season ... Does McEvoy have 3 to play 2? Just thinking out loud, if he were to come and redshirt ..................

I think this is exactly what it means. If Bennett stays though, consider that a major coup. As has been discussed at length before, he could be intriguing option at either receiver or safety if he's up to it.

Curious about this too. Since J-Rod and Lockie can both play without worry next season, one has to wonder if they can redshirt McEvoy. Presuming of course that Marcus stays healthy.

    • I see this kid signed with South Carolina out of high school. Say what you want about Spurrier but he knows QB's. This could be a good get

After 2007, we cannot take any of this for granted, especially if BB decides to transfer, which I hope he does not. As J-Hop indicated, in this offense as the #2 guy you are always potentially just one play away from being on the field, whether for a series or several games.

I hope we can lock this kid down.

    • Lockie is only 6'2".

Doesnt fit the current mold of what Oregon is looking for. We passed on a lot of good qbs that were dual threat and 6'0"-6'2" in the past 2 years.

And yet he was offered a scholarship and is at Oregon. The coaches must have seen something they liked.

    • If I'm perfectly honest with myself, I think West Virginia would be a better choice for him with a senior QB graduating and no clear successor. Mariota is pretty entrenched as the starter after making first team all Pac-12 as a freshman, his chances of beating Marcus for the job are slim to none.

Manziel is 6', pretty sure we'd have loved him on our roster.

He's not being recruited to beat Marcus though - nobody can. He's an insurance policy and possible successor if Marcus leaves early. Which he can after 2013 although that's extremely, extremely unlikely.

WVU is better for Tanner's immediate starting prospects, I agree, but he doesn't seem to care.
