    • So everyone knows Chip does recruiting different. Everyone knows he's generally very selective and waits longer to see how players develop (young men 16-17 years old can change significantly in just one season). From my perspective, this is a huge plus as the team chemistry, top to bottom, has been outstanding, even for those players that have chose to transfer. If you compare our current class to any other in the country, except for USC's limited schollie class, Oregon's players rate very well, with exception of the number of commitments, i.e., our average star rating is solid despite two known variables (ridiculous punter and JUCO ratings) that drag the average number down, and everyone appears to acknowledge this.

I am confident the coaches will close with 2-4 more 4, possibly 5 star recruits, and the balance with solid 3 star recruits.

Certainly, Oregon's appearance in the Fiesta will help, as will clarity on Chip's situation (one way or the other) and winning the Fiesta. And it would be nice if the NCAA and Oregon could come to an agreement on sanctions (how about having Bellotti, Chip and anyone else involved, either pony up the dollars wasted or serve short, unpaid suspensions, and move on - put the penalty on those that were involved, not the players that had nothing to do with it) related to the Lyles fiasco.

in your opinion, out of the LB's, if oregon was to take 2 more out of the remaining targets, which 2 would you pencil in as most likely to end up a duck?

    • I too get concerned about the lack of high-profile commits. I am no star chaser (I got excited over Walker's commitment), but its tough to watch film and see guys you really want to see in green and yellow....only to have them commit elsewhere...or worse...our coaches move on from them

    • With OL recruting as it is, would we consider looking at a JC OL??

Falah is out as he said he will go to UW if not USC. Hinnant has us top 3 as does Oser but nither is a lock and Hunt hasnt even visited so realistically we could end up with 0-1 of all listed.

What about Reeve Koehler?? Seems like with Tennessee switching coaches he might look harder at UO?

I'm not a mod, but I feel strongly that we get Oser who is highly underrated imo. Kid's a beast and should be a 4*. At least a high 3*. I also think if Hunt visits he'll be a Duck. He had offers from around the country and he chose Cal so I think he wants to play close to home.

With Cal in disarray with the coaching changes, I think Hunt ends up at UO to stay on the West coast. I think we close with Oser and Hunt imo and if we wiff on one of them I think our chances are good with Hinnant. We'll end up with two out of three of the kids I mentioned.

Also, we're already making moves on kids in '14. That 6'8", 280 lbs beast from Washington, Kaleb McCrary, who we offered seems to be very high on Oregon. I think this kid has future starting LT written all over him. Armsteadeasque had Arik played on the O side.

Also, SC commit Jordan Poland said he's very interested in Oregon and would like to visit so I could see him opening things up. A kid named Damien Mama is very high on Oregon. Hell, the #1 OT in the nation Cameron Robinson said he was very interested in Oregon, but our staff told him they felt he was all about Bama or LSU so they weren't going to recruit him. I say if the #1 OT in the nation reaches out and shows interest you reciprocate the interest, but we all know the staff does it their way.

Point is we're already building relationships with '14 kids and I'm confident we end up with two out of three of Oser, Hunt and Hinnant which added to our current OL commits is a good OL haul.

1ST of all the recruiting practice's that Chip and Oregon did including all the other school's that had anything to do with Lyle's, was according to the NCAA, clearly OK to do and wasn't breaking any rule's, and this is just my opinion is this the reason it's probably taken longer than expected is along with whatever Oregon get's in penalty's or reduction in Schollie's is just about over because what will probably happen and I don't think Oregon will get anything significant is NEW Rule's on this subject of what you can and can't do when it come's to these type's of recruiting practices, and whatever Oregon did, it doesn't come close to anything SC did with BUSH, so people need not catagoratize these two totally different infraction's so it's the new rule's after the hand slap.

KOD you, the mods and others have mentioned the 2014 class recruiting activity that is starting to happen, particularly the OL. This seems a little ahead of Oregon's past timing.

It occurs to me that offering top prospects prior to securing signatures for 2013 could have implications on the 2013 class. Positive or negative I'm not sure. Does offering 2014 recruits serve as a stimulus to 2013 recruits that the bus is leaving better get on or does it send the message that the bus has left, or does it demonstrate that these are the recruits we are going after that you will be playing with as a group? It appears the two 2014 OL prospects mentioned would not redshirt, whereas Brenner, Hinnant, Oser, possibly even Voeller would. A group like this, together with McCrary and the Nevada prep, would be a strong foundation for 2014-2017.

    • The "competition" argument is often tossed around as a fear for why a kid wouldn't commit, and is just as often assuaged by the idea that each and every one of these kids are the "big dog" in their own world, so I think few, if ANY, really buy into the idea that "they're not going to play at Oregon because recruit X is vastly superior to them", and typically this is within one class. I HIGHLY doubt that a SR in HS would be affected by a JR getting an offer...

I'm no expert, have no inside sources, but to me, it simply seems as though they're making OL their top priority for next year's class and are hitting that ground running to make sure they get the guys they want. I think they know what they have in Oser, Hinnant, Fallah, etc. and feel confident that they'll be able to land at least one and call it a year...

We said this same thing last year. Approach isn't changing.

I'm a little confused. Unless I'm missing something, there seems to be broad based agreement on this board that the staff waits longer than most programs to extend offers. They do their due diligence, check kids out thoroughly, grades, family, etc., etc. This seems to frustrate a lot of those that follow and post on the site. So last year, outside of TT, the best prospect possibly in Oregon history, were there other offers extended to 2013 prospects? And if so, maybe that could provide insight on impacts to the 2012 recruiting class either way. I'm just trying to gain a better understanding of what some of the strategies and tactics that are available and how they are being used.
