Top-5 2014 Washington Prospects

DuckTerritory.com continues our series of top-five prospects who Oregon could offer and today we look at the state of Washington. The Ducks have already offered offensive tackle Kaleb McGary and a few more offers could be coming in the next few months with elite talent like Devante Downs and Budda Baker.

Devante Downs

Devante Downs might be the best pure athlete in the 2014 class in the entire Northwest.

Kaleb McGary OT

The 6-foot-7 270 pound tackle out of Battle Ground, WA and Fife high school is perhaps the state's best offensive tackle for the 2014 class. McGarry already holds an Oregon offer as well as offers from Washngton, Utah, Oregon State, and Arizona State.

Devante Downs ATH

Devante Downs is the next physical freak to come out of the Northwest. Standing 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds the Mountlake Terrace, WA athlete could play multiple positions in college. Colleges already like him at running back and linebacker but Downs as the athletic ability to slide to tight end or safety if a school chooses too. If he continues to grow he could even develop into a hybrid defensive end linebacker.

Budda Baker ATH

The 5-foot-10 170 pound athlete out of Bellevue, WA and Bellevue high school is a four-star in the 2014 class and will be one of the state's best players. He could play running back, receiver, or even corner at the next level. A special teams threat Baker could quickly make an impact at the next level.

Isaiah Brandt-Sims ATH

Brandt-Sims is yet another athlete in the 2014 class out of Washington that could find his way onto the field at multiple spots. Brandt-Sims is a hard runner that could fit in well at Oregon in their spread offense.

Morgan Richey OL

If McGary isn't the state's best offensive lineman than Morgan Richey out of Bellevue, WA and Bellevue high school would be the logical second choice. At 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds Richey saw action as a sophomore and then started as a junior for one of the nation's best high school programs.

    • It would be so sweet to pull McGary, Downs and Baker from the mutts backyard. All three of them are beasts. I was actually watching McGary's highlights last night and I'm in love with this kid. My top OL want by far. The video I watched was him at a camp and he was absolutely dominate in everything he did.

On D he had a great first step and used his hands well. It showed him taking passes as a TE and he moves extremely well for a kid his size. OL is his bread and butter tnough. OT to be specific. McGary has every attribute you could ask for in an OT coming out of HS. 6'8", 285 lbs. He could easily get up to 310 lbs and still have a lean frame. He barely has any fat. It's all muscle and brawn.

His arms are long like a prototypical OT. He has great technique for a HS kid and he's extremely athletic for his size. Like I said, he had moves for a TE. He would be a perfect fit for LT in our system. Bring in McGary, Damien Mama(6'6.5", 325 lbs) for guard and then one more out of Bacon, Stone, etc... to play wherever and we'd be set for OL in the future.

IMO selling top offensive lineman on Oregon is the toughest position on the field. We've been hammered by negative recruiting about our system (Luke Joeckel played in a similar offense and could go first overall). Every elite kid we have a chance at we need the full court press. Helfrich has to get involved at this position more so than any besides QB. McGrary sounds very enticing. I'm with you that if we could add even 2 premiere lineman this class it would take us to a new level.

Negative recruiting will be able to be effective less and less after Long, Johnstone, Fisher and Grasu all get drafted in the first 3 rds. Gotta get the big slam pigs up front. Anybody who knows football understands that you build your team from the inside out.

Keep in mind McGary is a freak athlete and could even play on the defensive side of the ball too. He's been offered to play tackle at Oregon but I wouldn't be shocked if they let him choose should he come to Oregon.
