FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - University of Oregon offensive lineman Tyler Johnstone has been named to the 12th annual Football Writers Association of America All-America Team.
A redshirt freshman from Chandler, Ariz., Johnstone started all 13 games at left tackle for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl champion Ducks (12-1, 8-1 Pac-12), who ranked No. 4 in the BCS Standings at the start of the bowl season.
Johnstone was charged with protecting the blind side for All-Pac-12 quarterback Marcus Mariota and helped pave the way for the nation's No. 3 rushing offense (315.2 yards per game) and No. 2 scoring offense (49.5 points per game). He previously earned Freshman All-America accolades from Sporting News, CBSSports.com and FOXSPortsNEXT.com.
The multitalented Johnstone, who acted alongside Will Ferrell in the 2011 motion pictureEverything Must Go, is the sixth Oregon player named to the FWAA squad since the Freshman All-America team's conception in 2001, and fourth in the past four seasons.
The Freshman All-America Team is selected by an 11-person panel of writers. Both true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are considered for the team.
