Aaron Gordon to announce on 4/3

  • I still think we're a long shot and that he will end up at Washington. But we definitely have a few things going for us. Out of all the teams Gordon's looking at, we have improved the most and he will have the best chance to start here. Gordon has to know that Altman is a great coach and that we are "the team" in the Pac-12 right now. If we win a couple of games in the NCAA that will only help us.

  • So many mavens and gurus had Brandon Ashley projected, as one-and-done ... Though you can see his potential is great, he isn't even starting, for Arizona, now ...

Most of these blue-chips come in and find out that this isn't AAU basketball ... and that good college teams play team DEFENSE, and that it's much harder than they figured to get find / create your own shot, at this level and conclude that one-and-done isn't the way to go ...

I know UW has the Romar/Gordon's dad connection but do they also have the AAU connection how UO does with the twins and Artis? I think that's more beneficial for us since its his dads connection not his.

  • Hope so, 08 ... I know that everyone who plays with Artis enjoys the experience. Here's hoping Aaron drops by our walk-through, in San Jose ...

The NCAA doesn't dictate when a player can go pro. The pro leagues do.

There's a tacit agreement between the NCAA and the NBA regarding the rule, and the NCAA WAS involved in the creation of the rule. Just because the NBA is the organization that implements it, doesn't mean the NCAA doesn't have their dirty hands all over it. Technically or literally or officially, is it the NCAA's rule? No. But let's not kid ourselves, if the NCAA had thrown a fit about the rule, it never would have happened. It was sanctioned by the NCAA, for the NBA.

Matt's your man here. It sounds like Oregon has a decent chance, but how decent I have no idea.

Matt I saw on Twitter you confirmed this through his AAU coach. Can we read into this at all or is it gonna be a close finish?

I dont know what there would be to read into. His AAU coach said he's not talked to him in a week or so other than just a decision to set a date has been made and that it is the same schools./

  • Just wondering about his AAU connection to Artis and the twins. Thought the coach would know Altman.

Joe Davidson ‏@SacBee_JoeD Wouldn't surprise me at all if Aaron Gordon of Mitty-San Jose ended up at Oregon....

Same source that had the news on Arik Armstead...best Sac source!

That's true, but Mitty-San Jose isn't in the Sacramento area. Not that Joe Davidson might not have a connection to Gordon or track the larger region, but Arik Armstead was much more in his area.

  • If Romar ends up at UCLA, any chance that could change things for Gordon?

Only way Romar goes to UCLA, is as a assistant coach. No way do they fire Howland and hire a much worse coach, just because he will be more alum friendly.

Quotes from Romar seem consistent with those made by Chip before he left, i.e., he left a door open to leave in his public comments. Romar says he hasn't directly spoke to anyone at UCLA. He hasn't instructed anyone to reach out to UCLA. What is missing in these statements is that his agent has not been contacted by UCLA.

My intrigue is if Romar could sign Gordon would his stock for the position increase? I suspect it would.

    Drewknowledge

  • I know that the Gordon family said they'd never consider UCLA due to how Ben Howland handled the Drew Gordon recruitment and transfer from UCLA. If Romar were to take that job it would certainly change things that I'd wager the family would reconsider it.

How is Lorenzo Romar even a candidate for the job? He usually has some of the most talented teams in the Pac-12 and in past years has really underachieved.

hmmm. Have to think the Ducks performance well above expectations, coupled with the less than expected performance of Arizona, Washington and Kentucky give the Ducks a chance. Also, that Altman won coach of the year can't hurt.

  • I will be surprised if he chooses Oregon.

Any chance of getting in on some of the UCLA recruits if he falls through?

Give me a break, I wrote that 9 days ago. thumbsupAZ has stepped it up. Good chance in my opinion they go to E8 or F4. Ducks have already far exceeded expectations (preseason 7th in Pac, no NCAA tournament). A good showing against the birds may be enough. We received very good feedback from Cal and other bball fans while in San Jose regarding the Ducks play. Their play was much like the football team.... dominant. Gordon was able to see it first hand. Have to think we have as good a chance as AZ.
