BREAKING: Eagles hire Chip Kelly as head coach

  • bobthebuilder said...

No offense Alabama, but you ISH is offensive to some folks here right now.

We'll be fine and can handle the sharks in the tank.

No offense taken at all. I understand it sucks, trust me, weve been there. Oregon has a solid foundation and will be just fine. Do you think they will really promote the OC to the Head Coach like they said they would if Kelly left?

Personally I think it would be the safe guy to go with. I wouldnt mind seeing them test the waters too though.

Should Kelly have told his assistant coaches? YES! But to say that Chip screwed us over is not true. We would not be here if it weren't for Chip. Will we lose some PSA's, probably. I think Chip was planning to stay at Oregon, but the Eagles called and said they would give him control over personnel. How can you expect him not to take the job when he wants to coach in the NFL, and it's on the east cost.

Now, hopefully Oregon moves quickly to promote MH to head coach, and they hit the recruiting trail like there is no tomorrow to try and salvage this class. Campbell get on Wilson and Tyner! Frost and Helfrich get on the twins!!! GO DUCKS!!!

Really? MB had us going just fine, and has a proven record of hiring great OC. Chip gets way to much credit, as did Tedford before him, for what Bellotti was able to do.

  • Yea, Philly must have met his demands. Plus seeing how the option is working in the NFL had to make him a little antsy to get there. Name Heif immediately and get Coach Cam out to Dontre's.

Enjoy Life, it has an expiration date.

Eh, Bellotti never did what Chip did. I just hope Helfrich can sustain it.

  • I just looked outside. It's sunny, the river is still running, and there are people sharing stories and laughing. The world goes on.

This shouldn't be completely surprising. The Eagles position was still open and clearly they wanted Chip. Now they have him.

Oregon football is much more than any single person. The AD will execute the plan to replace Kelly and we will move on. We may see a few hits in this year's recruiting class, however, we will have an awesome 2013 and get back on track with recruiting in 2014.

Good luck Chip! Thanks for coming west and helping move Oregon football to the next level. Next man up! Achieve the goal! A National Championship!

  • Mullens needs to have a presser this afternoon promoting Helf to HC, and Frost to OC. Damage control. Then say we are going after Jerry Rice as receivers coach :)

  • this is kinda funny shrug...

    @BryanDFischer
Larry Scott joked that Chip pulled an option keeper when choosing to stay at Oregon. Turns out that fake was better than anybody thought..

Didn't Mullens allude to the fact that he was going to do a national search? Does Oregon have time for that now?
Do you think he has already interviewed enough candidates to satisfy the minority candidate rule?

  • We had ton's of Wiffs with Kelly, now we'll have lots of decommits and very little time to fill the new holes up. Recruiting wise this sucks. Coaching wise this hurts, hopefully Helfrich can manage. Best of Luck to Kelly, great coach, poker player, car buyer that he is.

Less than top 25 class here we come, possibly less than top 30.

There is no minority candidate rule in college football

It's a state university and the head coach is an employee of the state. We have to follow the law regarding the hiring. The law says at least one minority has to be interviewed for the position. The AD also said he was ready to do a nation wide search when coach Kelly was interviewing initially with the Browns and Eagles.
In reality, I think it will take longer than our fan base would like. It is one of the most desirable coaching jobs in the country. I'm sure we'll be fine.

I gotta go make some money and chase the paper. That's my reality.

No, but there is in Oregon law. Ducks have to "interview" a minority candidate.

Interview Cam and Pellum this morning. Or the whole staff for that matter. It's a stupid law, with an easy way around it.

get your work done then son!

I really think Oregon will have alot of good guys wanting to interview, the thing is they have already announced even before the Fiesta Bowl that they would promote your OC if Chip left. Things change but that might cause a big stir with the current staff.

I don't think so. It's a stupid law and does nothing to promote diversity, which I'm all for, but forcing it only keeps that racial line divided.

This is what I was saying. They prob offered him more control. That and now he's seeing first hand with RG3, CAM, Wilson and Kaepernick that the league is ready for him. Must also fire him up that his ideas are being successfully implemented in the NFL - no doubt he believes he can do it better.

Question is does he keep Vick or go after another QB? Vick has big time health issues.

  • Man I hope the Ducks don't promote Helfrich. I can't think of the last assistant to take over for a National championship caliber coach that succeeded. Bring in a stud like Chris Peterson and move forward

Yeah that's what I think. He sees it working in the NFL and he doesn't want everyone else stealing his thunder on something he thinks he's the best at. I would have a hard time with that if I was Chip too. He could have handled this better, but it's really hard for me to be seriously pissed at him. It sucks for him though that he'll never get to use his hot tub.

I won't be surprised to see Vick there for a year while CK looks for someone more permanent. I won't be surprised in Darron Thomas ends up a Eagle, and also if they draft Scott from Arizona.
