  • For those that didn't know Lakes HS is a huge UW factory and the coach is a big time UW supporter. This had to hurt for him to sit there. I know DJ Foster's HS Coach couldn't sit next to DJ if he announced for Oregon....

I wonder how this affects, if at all, guys like Shaq going or not going to UW?? Honestly, if I'm looking at a school, I want to play for a contender, not a team that can't even keep any of their own in-state talent. Idk if anyone else is feeling that way, but it's gotta hurt UW's recruiting pitch when they can't even keep a lock on their own in-state recruits that grew up freaking fuskie fans. I understand that we use to be in that same situation with guys like Suh going out of state, but shoot, UW can't even keep their 4-star recruits.

I think you're right. All these kids know each other from the All Star games to the camps, etc. I wouldn't think it has much impact but it is another grain of sand that could tip the scale in our favor. UW has really been hit hard this year in recruiting and Im not sure what it is because I thought with the announced upgrade they would close very strong. They might still but it hurts to lose the loacl kids.

We can hope, but it's probably not a factor in Shaq's decision. Offense vs Defense. Tosh vs whoever. Shaq's interest in Washington seems to be piqued by Tosh and Wilcox and they remain constant.

  • Man big pick up for USC, as for the Huskies, well you know you're slipping when you let talent leave your state.

Ya, I completely understand that point. I just don't get it. UW is revamping their stadium, bringing in coaches, and so on. Would a W against Baylor in their bowl game have really swayed people that much?? Or is UW just really unable to recruit much talent, and even local talent?? It just doesn't compute that they can't land in state, yet Shaq is high on them... Don't get me wrong, I love it, but the fact that Shaq can go to Oregon with a close friend of his, or go to UW with a recruiter that was trying to sell him Cal, only to sell him UW now?? It just doesn't make sense. I understand being friends with the coaches and so on, but would you rather play for a winner, or a sub-par team that apparently isn't setting itself up well for years to come according to their current recruiting... I guess it just makes sense as a fan, but he has more to consider of course. Oregon almost makes too much sense. Constantly winning now, Shaq wants to be a trainer, and Oregon has an awesome athletics program and one of the best trainers in the country in their strength and conditioning coach. A spot for him to fill immediately, along with a close friend going there as well. Is his relationships to Tosh and Wilcox and wanting to be in a big city that overwhelming in his mind?? Just doesn't make sense... CK even said he would use Shaq in the offense in a multi-faceted role, which Shaq wants. Idk... Sometimes it's just confusing. If UW was his hometown favorite that'd be one thing, can't blame him if he goes with Cal, he has lots of ties there, but UW?? REALLY?? Am I the only one thinking this?? Anyone else??

  • I'm glad Banner chose USC. It's totally obvious that the kids from the state of Washington are all seeing why choosing the University of Washington is a mistake. Spiteful and bitter fan-base and community and a questionable coaching staff that is desperate and reaching for straws. Superior academics are available at numerous other schools. Why would anyone want to go to UW and become a dog?

I'm starting to think that Shaq Thompson really will pick Washington and it's just sad to me.

I don't fault Tosh Lupoi for taking a bigger contract offer that was on the table, that's fine with me. The track record about his lack of character is far more extensive than just that, however. This guy is a grade-A con-man and used car salesman. He is a hack of a coach that instructs his players to cheat in order to win. He is a deceitful employee that started recruiting for Washington even before he took off his Cal clothing. I wouldn't want my son or daughter anywhere near a person with such a shady and unethical background. Especially someone who has yet to apologize or admit his wrongdoing.

Shaq Thompson would be better off at Washington State than at Washington. I think it sets a dangerous precedent when the so-called "recruiter" coaches are so conniving and persistent that they are able to attract kids that they won't even be personally coaching, to come along with them from one school to another. It's like, I kind of understand when people switch from school A to B to follow their position coach, but this situation with Shaq Thompson is just ridiculous.

But Shaq will make a decision and hopefully he will be happy with it. I hope he comes to Oregon or Cal, but if he does go to Washington, I wish the best to the kid. It's just really sad that a recruiting mercenary like Lupoi can have this impact on someone's future.

Spiteful and bitter fanbase? Human nature is human nature. Anyone who has been up for a while struggles with being down. There was coaching turnover and that affects recruiting. Last year the Huskies got all of the top 5 in-state recruits. Were you saying then that it was totally obvious why the top Washington recruits wanted to go to Udub? You're first paragraph is nonsense.

I was disappointed what the Armstead's asserted about UW and Cal doing negative recruiting. If they were that is just stupid, but sadly not beneath them. Chip's honesty won the day and kudos to him for that.

Banner was never going to be a Husky - even though I'm sure that part of him loved being near home. Understanding is that he wanted to distance himself from things related to his father who went to UW.

The situation with Shaq does not look great, but this stuff happens all the time. This pales in comparison to some of the things that happen in the SEC. Can't say for sure what Tosh is truly like apart from rumors. But the Husky staff as a whole is quite young and if they are going to be successful in 2013 and 2014 they better learn from the debacle of this last week.

I want to clarify what I assume you meant here. The "them" in the statement above is about UW and Cal, not the Armsteads, right? If so, I agree.

That debacle might get even worse on NSD, as there is a chance that Miles ends up in LA also.

Not talking smack or making any guarantees, but we are hearing it's a real possibility, despite any contrary public pronouncements.

If that happens, Sark will have missed out on all three of Miles, Banner and Garnett this year. Ouch.
