Beaver fans calling for Riley's Head

  • Poor guy- he was handed the keys to a John Deere and he has turned the program into an Amish Wagon.

  • Even tho i think Riley is a good coach, and a good person, if he dont start winning more up there in corvallis all that will be thrown out the window and his seat will start to warm up!

    GG-

I would say the seat is very warm in Corvallis...

  • They should bring back Pettibone and the triple option.

  • The Beavers are a bit of an enigma. They have had plenty of unheralded teams do well, and then when they do have talent and are hyped they seem to fall flat. Truth is they are miles behind the Ducks with their program and that's starting to wear on the fans. Oregon's exposure, success and ambition has added a new level of pressure to the situation for sure.

USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.

ide say his seat is warm also, its gonna get even hotter if he has another losing season, they will start out 0-2, there is no way they go into wisconsin and pull out a win!

  • Do they have several NFL linebackers like they've had in the past? How bout NFL defensive lineman? They have a few good recievers and defensive backs, that's about it right now. Katz is inconsistant and they are rebuilding the O-line.
I guess that becuase they've seemed to always overachieve that everyone thought they'd do it again this year. They still should have won Saturday but I'm not shocked that they are down right now.

Now watch. They'll come out and shock Wisconsin on the road!

  • Who do they get to come to Corvallis that is better than Riley? The guy grew up there, played for Bear Bryant, coached in the NFL and is one of the more respected men in the profession. Add to that OSU's reluctance to pay premium dollars and I'd say beaver fans who want him out don't know what they are asking for.

I totally agree, but, I wonder if the Sac State coach would interview...obviously somethings got to give.

  • He seems to have lost his ability to recruit. The teams athleticism is at an all time low. Especially on D.

  • I thought the Beavs were going to struggle, but it is now looking worse than I could ever imagine. There is a significant portion of the the OSU fan base that hates the Ducks more than they love their team. I think Oregon's recent success has really bothered this part of the fan base in Corvallis. The PAC-12 TV money could definetly help them out. I understand their frustration with Riley and 8-4 season. He needs to be a little more agressive in his aproach (imo). Beaver fans see seasons that Oregon has had the last couple years and want the same thing. But if you are gonna fire a coach you need to the next guy in mind. If you hire a new guy it is going to take time to build the program, the success doesn't happen over night. And remember that USC tried to hire Riley. The Beavs have some serious issues, but firing Riley isn't going to solve them (but the new PAC-12 money might).

  • If Beaver fans are really thinking that Riley is the problem and needs to go, there is just one saying that comes to mind.

Be careful what you wish for.

  • I highly doubt the seat is warm. OSU is like WSU in that it is a low profile program that is very difficult to recruit too. Only difference is Riley built up cache there.

Despite my feelings for OSU, he is a hell of a coach, and OSU has overachieved for a long time. Honestly with an average coach that team is 4-8 every year.

If OSU were to fire Riley it would be a horrible mistake.

Completely agree. What people seem to forget is that it takes time for a new coach to build a program. And what happens if the new guy wins 4 or 5 games for a couple season, do you fire him? I think the people in charge of the athletic program are realistic, but some of their fans are completely delusional (as are quite a few duck fans or really any fan base).

  • I think Riley is what OSU needed for a long time. He was a great, hard working coach who consistently overachieved. I think that Riley is reaching his plateau with the Beavers however. In order for them to keep up in the PAC I think a coaching change is inevitable in the next few years.

I think it was similar with Brooks > Bellotti, then Bellotti > Kelly. Brooks took Oregon to a new level, but it required someone like Belloti to take it higher up. The same can be said with the Bellotti to Kelly transition too. I think that is what OSU needs.

Side note: When Carroll left USC, Riley's name was just merely mentioned as a replacement. A day later he was given a big extension by OSU. So he is definitely cherished in Corvallis. But more losses to programs like Sac State and everything else will be forgotten.

  • I think this is just insecure-tired of hearing about he Ducks-beaver fan overreacting to one (albeit very bad) loss. Just over a year ago this guy was pursued by USC. They fail to realize that OSU isn't a place that is just going to reload every year no matter who the coach is. They're going to have rebuilding years.

Plus, DeCarolis is tied at the hip to Mike Riley. He'll never fire him, and considering he has a contract that runs through 2019 OSU doen't have the budget to buy that contract out. Even with the new TV contracts they're structured so that the payouts to each school builds over the first few years so it will be a few years before the big money starts rolling in.

  • I think OSU could go 0-12 just as easily as Oregon goes 12-1. If they can't beat Sacremento State (at home) who can they beat? If I was a pollster I would rank Wisconsin in the top 5. I bet OSU gets blown out by 30+. I'm not a hater, the Beavs are my second favorite team but I feel sorry for their fan base.
