Lets hope we get Ruffin to change his mind I mean dont you think its kind of funny hes coming for an official visit. That would be a huge get for the D period.

People always talk about how high profile recruits want to go places where they'll have an opportunity to get early playing time. USC has what, two or three true freshman starting at LB who'll be starting the next two years at least. Oregon has two seniors at the inside LB spots with the rotation spots behind those two seniors undecided and even if he's behind Rodney and Anthony in 2013 he knows that he can still play significant snaps if he earns it. That could be attractive to him and hopefully David Perkins.

Even with little chance of a commitment, the more studs we get to visit and see for themselves what Oregon is like and what they have to offer can only be a positive thing. There's a lot of negative recruiting going on especially from the USC staff. I think the staff like to bring people like Ruffin and JCP up for a visit to quell some of that negativity. And who knows, maybe it will even open their eyes up wide enough to sway their decision.

They may have hurt USC in the recruiting forum, but we are the team that must face them in division each year. I am in the camp of those that believe if Kline pans out, we will be facing some VERY stiff competition in the near future.

It's not a black or white thing. Oregon just won the Rose Bowl and is about to have one of the top couple recruiting classes ever. OF COURSE I am happy with that! Can I not both be extremely excited with current success AND wish, say, McCarthy would come here?

Yes. Yes you can. But it's clear he's not already so its time to move on from him. We all play the 5 star dream lineup game, I look at lists all the time and pencil in who would dominate on the field, but the reality is we are usually on the outside looking in for many of these 5 stars. I thought we would have a great shot at Murphy but that will probably prove wrong. There's a time and a place to cut free and be happy with what you've got rather than what you could have rather than drag on the misery. Just a difference in perspective I guess.

We need to quit worrying about Cal. As long as Teddy Bear is coaching, they have an approximate 8-win ceiling and the Good Housekeeping Seal of Mediocrity. With three weeks to go, we have a Top 15 (or close) class and we just need to close on 3-4 of the pending visitors to finish with a class that is on par with the 2011 class. The two-deep is already oozing with talent and we are adding a new flock of great athletes.

We can all be disappointed about missing out on this recruit or that, but it is still a great time to be a Duck fan. We'll get our share before it is through.

Maybe it did, but probably not as much as 5 star chasing and poor player development the last couple of PC's tenure. The cupboards weren't exactly stocked when Pete left, were they? But that really is a separate point. AvroDuck is simply saying that the sanctions have very little or no relation to Oregon's success. Since the sanctions were handed down; how many recruits can you name that USC really went after hard, but went to Oregon instead? DAT is out of the conversation since his decision had nothing to do with sanctions.

And in regards to the, "We should be the beneficiary's to the USC sanctions instead of Cal" feelings, let's be real. Those guys that wanted to go to USC and would've been locks for there are going to Cal because A. It's still in CA B. A great school, education, and networking possibilities once out of college, and C. Still has the big-town vibe with it's close proximity to the bay area big-cities. We definitely have benefitted from USC's sanctions in that those athletes that would've picked them, DAT, Blackmon, Kelly, etc. picked Oregon. Notice how Cal is getting the defensive players and linemen?? That's because Oregon plays a very different defense, plays 3-4, and the defense subs, A LOT. Other teams don't do that. Oregon's scheme is for the D-line to take the double-teams and for LB's to come in free... Why would McCarthy or Armstead want to come to a school where they are the guys getting double-teamed while the LB's fire away?? That's why those big linemen love the 4-3. That mainly applies to the D-linemen, guys like Thompsen,etc. who play Safety or DB are different. Thompsen clearly loves Cal, and has family ties to that school. We load up on Safeties and DB's each year. But as far as linemen go, they wouldn't go to us anyways, we gotta realize it's not the recruiting, or lack thereof, it's not just that they don't like Oregon, it's also our defensive style. There's a reason we don't land these big time linemen except for once in a blue moon. But let's be real, for the style we play, we got the exact guys we need in the class.

USC being down through free agency and negative recruiting helps Oregon's success no? I mean if your biggest competition has an arm tied behind their back it is beneficial to your program. SC is a different team with a 1st team all-SEC D-End and the #1 recruit in the country at O-Tackle. It at least would've lessened to blow of loosing Jarvis Jones, which didn't have anything to do with sanctions.

I would love to see him play both sides of the ball at Oregon as well. The kid is an astounding athlete, and seems to make plays no matter where you put him on the field.
