Can ducks beat Okie St?

  • Based on end of the reg season, i would say no.

Based on the final two games of tourney, i would say yes.

I think we can do it. We just have to play lose and keep turnovers down.

    What's your take?

  • I think we have a good chance. I think its a pretty even matchup. It easily could have been flipped with us the #5 and them the #12.

San Jose is in our back yard, So the Duck's should be fine as long as their HUNGRY, I think they can beat anyone in the tourney. Couldn't of picked a better time to start hitting outside shot's as well as the Lay in's looked a little easier last night like maybe the Game is slowing down a little more for these guy's. If Lloyd can keep playing like he has been, then I think we should be just fine, and Defense win's Championship's, and when did Ernie Kent's Team's play D like these guy's do. The answer is never. These guy's just on their D alone should be able to make it as far as the Elite 8 like Ernie's Team did.

Woah there cowboy. The Elite 8 means beating #1 overall seed Louisville. I don't like to admit it, but our two Elite 8 runs with Ernie benefited greatly from favorable matchups. For the second run, we never beat a team higher than the 6th seed.

I do think we have a better seeding than we may have been able to negotiate as an 11 or even a 10 seed. The 12 seed is a slap in the face as far as respect is concerned, but our actual seeding is reasonable. That said, OSU is solid and so is St. Louis.

We may have only beat a sixth seed but we did tbetter against Florida, who won it all, than the team that played the in final four and championship did.

Loyd cant guard Smart with a 2x4, so giving him some help or putting Dotson on him will be key.

Exactly - I think our seed was highly based on the last half of the season. If the Ducks that played last weekend show, I think we can get to Sweet 16. However, if the Ducks that lost to Utah show up, it will be ugly. I do think these last 3 games have given them some more confidence and determination. My take - if we get past OSU, we go to the Sweet 16.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Dot guard him. He went head to head with Shabazz last night and did a heck of a job. As a hoop coach, to see him pull the chair out on Muhammad last night on that last possession just made me smile. To have the savvy to do that says a lot about his basketball IQ. I think that if the Ducks can play D like they did throughout the tourney, they can make a nice run. Don't know if they can beat Louisville but you never know what can happen when a team starts playing with supreme confidence

However Altman approaches this will be the key to the game IMO. Dubois from Utah (when we played them at Utah) managed to just shoot over Loyd whenever he wanted. Last night it was worse with Drew, he managed to shoot over Loyd every time. And it wasn't just shooting over him, he was actually making them.

If Loyd guards Smart it'll be a long night. IMO Artis and Dotson should guard him. The problem with that is who knows how many minutes Artis will get and how well he'll actually play.

  • Thankfully for jonny they have a 5'11" shooting guard they like to play with smart who will be perfect for jonny to match up with while dotson/emory guard marcus. They do have another SG who is a 6'3" high flier but if we can keep smart and brown out of the paint we should do well, we have a significant size advantage in terms of players who contribute for their team, so if tony, arzalan, waverly, and ben can play stout interior defense and clean the boards i really like our chances so long as we do the basics on offense (make our FT's, don't turn the ball over, move the ball well)

  • ESPN predictor trumpets no love for the Pac-12, saying all five teams will lose in first round!

  • saw that, it is "bold predictions" so i didn't take it too seriously. plus he's a big ten guy, of course he has no respect for the PAC since we can't stop making them look silly in football as a conference in general (yes ohio state beat oregon in the 2009 rose bowl but for this millennium thats the exception not the rule)

  • I would look for Oregon to play man-to-man defense on OK State, as they are tied for 275th in the country, shooting .316 from long range. I believe our point guards in Artis and Loyd have what it takes to play fantastic defense against Smart, and help to minimize the impact that he can have on the game.

Hopefully Oregon will have the kind of fan support that Arizona did in the Pac-12 Tourney. While it doesn't guarantee that they will win the game, having a packed arena in green and yellow will be a huge confidence booster for the team.

And if Oregon continues to shoot like they have been, the paint will open up for Woods and Austin.

I'm picking Oregon to advance to the Sweet 16, where they will play Louisville.
