Chip Kelly being courted by the NFL

  • Bowerz101 said...

Chips blur offense philosophy would not work in the NFL. Now could he be a good X and O guy? Absolutely, but the blur offense would not work because teams can afford the depth needed to run it. You aren't going to be able to afford the players needed to rotate all the players needed to keep them fresh like you can in college. Depth is easy to come by in college but just look at the Packers. Couple injuries here and there and you are all of a sudden mortal again.

Beg to differ. I think Chip's offense ... with tweaks of course ... will work even better in the NFL. A team or two will be desperate enough to try it ... witness the insane Tebow experiment in Denver ... within two years.

New, successful college offenses always take five years or so to migrate to the pro level. All the traditionalists say they'll never work. Cases in point: Bill Walsh's West Coast offense, empty backfield three and four receiver sets and the "wildcat." All needed to be changed a bit to fit the pros but all worked even better with the right pro personnel.

Will Chip leave? Eventually. Nothing ever stays the same. Will he leave in a year or two? I doubt it but that's Chip's business and none of us has a clue.

Chip to the NFL has no chance of happening.

    Feel better?

    What about the Raiders? panic

    Just kidding around.

  • It would be GOOD for Chip to nip this in the Bud very quickly. Bad timing with recruits to start interviewing.

  • It seems to me there are a lot of factors. The "blur" offense is just one aspect of Chip's offensive approach and philosophy. The bigger question to me is how well his zone read option would work against NFL defenses. I can only wonder what his offense would look like if he had more time with his players (not the same practice time restrictions and you don't necessarily lose your players every 3 or 4 years) and more time to put more complicated and nuanced looks.

I'm thankful that Chip has such a large buyout and by all accounts loves his players, the school and his job at Oregon.

    There is nothing to nip!

True, but I think Chip and Co. can turn this into a positive especially with Olinemen. I'm thinking along the lines of schools who claim oregon's offense does not prep you for the NFL, but here comes the NFL wanting our head coach.

There is in the recruits mind.

@thomas_tyner: Wow....Chip Kelly is a choice for Dolphins? Hmmm

but then he also retweeted the miami herald article busting the myth. But in mind of other recruits it raises some questions. Needs to be addressed.

There's nothing to nip if Chip hasn't been contacted or hasn't planned to do anything. I'm sure he'll let any recruits with questions know.

  • I'll preface this with I love Chip and hope he is a life long Oregon coach.

That being said, IF he were to leave I would not be worried one bit. It is pretty well known the one job Petersen will ever leave Boise for is Oregon, and he would have stiff competition. We are a top 10 coaching job (at worst), and there would be top flight coaches drooling for the job.

It's known that Petersen would CONSIDER leaving for Oregon. His leaving Boise is far from a certainty, even for us. Especially considering he just signed an extension there.

Still, I don't think Chip is leaving, at least not yet; but until Miami hires someone else or Chip comes out and says it, this is going to make me uncomfortable.

Kelly is not being courted by NFL teams. Anyone saying otherwise is either very ignorant, or just trying to stir the pot with lies.

You seem very sure that there is no possible way an NFL team such as the Dolphins would reach out to Chip's agent. Do you have an inside source that has confirmed this?

    Bairdy

  • If Chip decided to leave at some point, I would welcome Peterson with open arms! What he does at boise state is pretty remarkable, that dude does more with less talent then any other coach in the country, just imagine what he could do with the talent that oregon gets!

  • Dolphins are hiring Jeff Fisher today.

Looks like that rumor was busted. Good one KEZI.

    Glad that's over.

KEZI never said they were on the verge of hiring Chip, just that they contacted his agent. Fisher was always their first choice. This works out best for all involved.

Exactly. There is no way that Fisher was the only potential candidate they reached out to. Good hire by the Dolphins though, I like Fisher. And it's good to put any potential questions to rest leading up to signing day.

  • So the Rams, not the Fins, hired Fisher. How crazy. Not that that means anything for Chip because I'm 100% sure he doesn't go anywhere.

  • John Canzano just reported that Chip Kelly will be leaving Oregon to take the last Cal opening.

"I bonded with Tosh Lupoi when we were youngsters at hockey camp in Bear Lake, Utah so many years ago," said Kelley. "We always talked about rooming together someday and that day has finally arrived." Kelley will be coaching both the Cal frisbee and field hockey teams, applying "blur" offense principles to the sports he has always loved first and foremost. "Football bores me," said Kelley. "The game moves so slow. That's why I got rid of the huddle but even still there are just too many breaks in the game due to slow refs, time outs and commercials."

Joining Kelley and Lupoi in their new living arrangement will be ESPN commentator Erin Andrews who has quit her high profile job to make a new life in Berkeley. Ms. Andrews will be creating a line of sports jerseys made entirely of hemp for the Cal athletic teams. "The environment really matters," said Ms. Andrews. "It is time to stop consuming resources needlessly. I'm now weaving an extra large hemp hammock for Chip, Tosh and I to share in our yurt." Ms. Andrews met Lupoi at cheerleading camp when they were teenagers and the two shared a dream of a permanent threesome with Kelly. "That day has finally come."

Ms. Andrews described the new Cal jerseys as the "anti-Nike, anti-Duck look."

"These jerseys are so bland and gray looking you hardly notice them. They will definitely appeal to young athletes who are going for the desperately poor, homeless look which is so in fashion these days at the 'Occupy" sites."
