Chip Kelly impresses Falah family

Dude, Falah is not coming to Oregon. Neither is Vanderdoes. Move on.

If Chip thinks we have a chance then I will take his visit as more of a good sign then your oppinion.

  • Natty,

    funny you say that.

I had a dream last night. I never dream.

But in my dream Nick Aliotti called me and asked me to call Eddie Vanderdoes on his behalf and tell him he didn't have to play nose tackle. Eddie was super chill about it and said he'd love to come play for Oregon and his man AA. I woke up happy.

I don't believe in stupid crap like divination, but call me crazy if I will always hold out a small shred of hope for EV until he signs his LOI.

    die yankees die

  • Why not send the positive energy to my team and my coach? We are gonna get one of these top-tier targets. Not gonna bet the farm, but I sure as s*** believe in my coach.

Are you implying that I'm sending negative energy?

Just trying to keep a straight head with this stuff. The way things have been going, and going consistently, is down the drain. I'm not trying to be a downer but it isn't realistic to think the coaches will get 5-6 more targets that they really want in this class.

I'd love to be wrong :D

No, no. No implication of that stuff from you, Natty. I'm just saying that me, myself and I are hopeful idealists, even in the face seriously bummer-ass recruiting news that keeps coming our way. Your realism is pragmatic. My take is slightly more sunny-side optimistic.

This is what Chip does on in-home visits. You should just save this template Justin.

Chip goes in, spits no bullshit, and parents love it. End of story. It's great.

It's not great because it's ultimately meaningless. Oregon is the perennial bride's maid in these situations. The no BS angle seems great, totally honest like a MAN, and the kid and his family talk about how great Kelly is and how much they respect his style, and then they commit to another program. The whole "loved his honesty" line is just like a beautiful woman telling you you're a nice guy and then going back to screwing her emotionally abusive boyfriend.

It wasn't that way for Armstead last year. And it hasn't been that way for a lot of guys over the years.

Listen, if you want to be all doom and gloom, fine. You and a bunch of others. It's not worth arguing though. It's really not worth me trying to tell you that if you can't find happiness in being a Ducks fan TODAY, you really never will. I've followed recruiting (usually quietly) for a number of years now, and now more than ever fans should have the mentality of "trust the coaches". I'm not saying you can't, or shouldn't, be disappointed if we miss on a given recruit, or even if you feel generally that we're having a down recruiting season. But, the only thing that matters in the end is our performance on the field. And one could also argue the performance of the players in the classroom and community, which has been extremely solid over the past couple of years. Our coaches get it done. We're talking about 12-win seasons! This is elite, people! If you can't enjoy that, what's the point?! What, you're going to come to a message board and rant about how the coaches don't know what they're doing, haven't proven they can recruit, etc, etc? Really? Because you know more? Because you could do better? Because you think 12-win seasons year after year isn't good enough?

For crying out loud. Try to find some perspective. If you feel disappointment in aspects of recruiting, fine, but please stop the meltdowns and doom and gloom. It makes our fan base look uneducated and spoiled. Maybe that's what is happening though.

Our fan base wants to WIN FOOTBALL GAMES. And that all starts with recruiting. UCLA and UW are KILLING IT. We need to hold our own or no schematic advantage will matter. Uneducated? Like all the ignorant sunshine pumpers who just assume everything will be okay? Bullcrap. It's called being a realist. And the reality IS that we are getting dominated on the recruiting trail this year. Does it mean I'm any less happy about the Fiesta Bowl win or 46-7 or 9 straight? Hell no, get the f out of here with that nonsense. We can enjoy the ride AND be concerned about the future.

I'm glad to hear you are in fact enjoying the ride. I don't know you ... I just read your posts, and most of them come across as extremely negative. So I am truly happy that you are a fan that is enjoying this ride. I question if that's the case with some people out there, because some people seem seriously unhappy or affected if we're involved with or land a certain recruit.

When I mention "trust the coaches", which I get you don't want to hear, I'm talking about putting faith that our coaches know how to recruit, and know what type of player/person they are looking for more so than what a websites recruiting ranking means. It's hit and miss out there, and Oregon isn't immune to that. There was a ton of excitement these past few years about players like Seastrunk, White, Wallace, Rowland, Blackmon, etc ... players that had no, or minimal production on the field. The excitement was generated due to recruiting rankings. There was a lot less excitement about players like Grassu, Wade K., Malone, Dargan, Jackson, etc, again, due to recruiting rankings. Happy to have these players as Ducks ... of course ... but the same level of excitement didn't exist as it did with the higher-ranked players. And their production on field has been awesome. Like I said, it's hit and miss, even for Oregon, and I think our coaches have earned the right for our fan base to have a little faith that what they've been doing, and are doing, works pretty well.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes as well, which is always a factor. I'll just say that I'm EXTREMELY happy with the 13 current commits, and I'm excited about the potential of completing our class over the next couple of weeks. Be happy with what we have, rather than focus on what we missed.

Actually, given our needs and our current situation, I'd take our class to either UW or UCLA. To say they are killing it and that we are getting dominated is hyperbole. Certainly, UW and UCLA are doing better than they have done recently and given the markets they are in, new stadium, etc., they should be doing better. They also have many holes to fill, which provides recruits an opportunity to play early. This is all good for the PAC.

However, we have talent in this class that will be amazing, among the best at their positions in the entire history of the program. The coaches will add a few more (4-6) and we will be just fine.

You are incomprehensibly ignorant if you wouldn't trade for UCLA's class. And it's not just about pure talent, it's about need. 3 four star LBs, SIX four star linemen, oh and then "throw in" Craig Lee and Massington and Duarte and Quessenberry and Lopez. Their class would be PERFECT for us, Tyner or no.

Let's see, you would rather have UCLA:
1 4* LB who can't make up his mind one day to the next, plus some others. I think I'll take Robinson and Mattingly, plus potentially one other that we are targeting.
Craig Lee? Really? Really? No brainer - Tyner and Wilson, not even close. Even an incomprehensibly ignorant fan like me sees that one.
Massington - good pick up by UCLA, but I think I'd rather have Carrington, with Robinson to possibly join him, thanks.
TE - Duarte would have been good. Mundt's solid for our scheme and we're not done there yet, so we will see.
OL - UCLA has some solid pick ups. Voellar, Brenner and Pisarcik - solid with tremendous upside, although we have some work to do there.
Dline - UCLA has some good guys coming in. Not a priority for us, so inconsequential.
DB - they don't have much. I think I'd take Seisay. And we are possibly picking up another.
    Kicker/punter - I think I like Wogan. No, I love Wogan!

Overall, I guess I'll stick with being incomprehensibly ignorant.

    Thanks for playing.

mark me down as incomprehensibly ignorant too, because I like our class for the way we do things better than UCLA's as well.

  • Yeah, I have to say I'm an ignorant one as well. I would take Oregons class in a heart beat over UCLA's. Especially if we land one if Hunt, Porter or Falah which I'm still confident we will. Landing Fitts, Williams, James, McEvoy, Childs, Cunningham, Powell, etc...is just a bonus at this point.
