Ya i watched him run the 40

he also ran a 7.29 shuttle and had a 32" vert

32" vert for someone his size sounds pretty good. Any idea where that ranked him among the other TE? Where he will really excell is during the interview process and the catching drills. Dude has some sticky mits!!!

  • He actually had some drops, and on the drop drill he was weaving rather than just running strait down the line. Overall he looked ok, but he could have done a lot better.

Was watching his sideline drills and had some quick feet, but he only had one drop all day during drills.

Edit: at least when i was watching...

  • The 40s on NFL network were unofficial/hand timed by NFL network people FWIW.... Official numbers get posted later.

Even if that is accurate, I still think Paulson will be a contributor at the next level. He knows how to get open, is a good blocker, and is quick in-and-out of his cuts. Jake Ballard (TE for the NYG) ran like a 5 second forty pre-draft, and he's doing pretty good...

  • According to walterfootball.com, NFL teams don't pay attention to what the offical time is, they go by the time they got for the player. Some teams may have had Paulson at 4.81 and that's what they will go by. I don't think he hurt himself at all.

  • well looks like LMJ is the current leader for the 40 with a 4.36 for the 1st attempt

  • LMJ just ran an unofficial 4.37 40.

For sure, and the 21 reps was the most by any TE, and blocking is what seems to stick out for him right now. Some team will pick him up. Guys got hands of glue, and that is what counts the most IMO.

21 reps was around T-7th best TE. The overall TE group at the combine was not as talented this year.
LMJ just ran a good time and I think he will do better on his next attempt

  • Lamichael James measured out at 5'8" 195 pounds officially. Unofficial of 4.37 has got to have some coaches interested.

    EpochX

  • LMJ just ran another 4.37 - same as his first try. Tied for first place among running backs.

    BornADuck

  • LMJ officially ran a 4.45 which is 2nd in the rb category. those times they ran this morning are unofficial. the NFL goes back and does the time again and then makes it official. Paulson's run of 4.81 was unofficial. this is why you NEVER believe the 40 times that recruits say they run. even when filmed they can be wrong.

  • Cliff just got a little press in the Oregonian - looks like it was an AP story. Nice interview but the first time I have heard him talk about how depressed he was when he got suspended. He even said what he did was "boneheaded". Another thing I didn't know is that evidently his family drag races, which helps explain why he was driving so fast - he just said it was at the wrong place (duh..)

I sure hope he gets drafted and we can watch him play next year.

  • Was just checking SI before I have to leave for the day, it looks like LMJ made the risers list, and sadly, Darron is on the sliders.

People shouldn't give a shit about 40 times at all, period.

Chris Polk "officially" ran a 4.47(his other run was closer to 4.6)
LaMichael James "officially" ran a 4.45 despite the fact that both of his runs were timed at 4.37

So Polk gets a tenth of a second shaved off his time and James gets one added? Does anyone SERIOUSLY believe that Polk was only two one hundredths of a second slower than James? I don't need subjective timings of people in non football situations. I need eyeballs on players playing football in football games.

  • That's a bummer about Darron Thomas. I'll be so very sad if it doesn't work out for him, especially if we have any quarterback problems this year(not that I expect any).

On a side note- Who knew what an athletic freak Andrew Luck is? His combine measurables were almost identical to Cam Newtons. Luck's official 40 time was 4.67, a shade behind Newton's 4.59. Luck had a better vertical jump by one inch, Newton a better broad jump by two inches.

  • I think the number for Polk might have been misreported somewhere. Espn had his official time a shade under 4.6. He's not a sub 4.5 guy. McShay with espn said James arguably did as much to help himself as any of the rb's. The va tech kid, miller and Richardson are the top 3, but James might be the next guy depending on the team.
