"White man you just starting to get the blues" - Rags and Bones, Nomeansno
It would be nice if someone could take the time to look at the expected graduations after this year and put together a quick guideline of what positions we'll be looking for in 2013. It seems like we take a two year on/off approach for some positions (by necessity or design), such as the OLine and DLine.
QB - All of a sudden we're very deep at this position. I would expect we only take one here. It may be tough to get a really top-notch recruit because of the depth and youth we already have here.
RB - Tyner and one more? We'll be losing Barner, although Marshall and Carson should be stepping up for 2013. Interesting to see if we can land another good one here.
WR - This may be tough as we just landed monster back-to-back classes. We will only really be losing Vaughn as a projected 2-deep? Not a lot of room to add more, but you never know.
TE - See above.
OL - Fits into the two year model. Last year was great, this year not so much. Look for a strong haul in 2013. Probably our biggest position of need in this class.
S - Daniels was a huge pickup. Missing on Shaq hurts only because he was Shaq. We actually seem to be quite deep here. Look for Daniels to ease into Boyett's position while Patterson and Dargan compete for Pleasant's? Also, don't rule out the Amoakos. We seem fairly deep here, but I could see us grabbing one or two more if they're good ones (especially after missing on Shaq and Harper).
CB - Very similar to above. We have young depth here. Mitchell, Hill, Ifo are all crazy good for how young they are. Will Mathis make the leap? Stephen Amoako? We're a little more thin here than we are at safety. Look for 2 or 3 pickups?
LB - Losing Castro and Cottrell hurts a lot. We're set here with the 2-deep for now, but after that things fall off fast. This is probably the biggest position of need on defense. Hopefully Barafo can learn the ropes quickly. Do we take three next year? Four?
DLine - We picked up an amazing number of DEs this year. We also have Koa coming off his redshirt. We should be set at DE for years. That said, our DT seems a bit thin. But, given our unconventional scheme, maybe that's not such an issue. Bair and Balducci should be very solid here, but after them, we have no youth. DT is always everyone's big wish, but striking out on McCarthy and passing on Shittu makes this a position of need. I hope we can get at least one top DT (and no, not Nkemdiche).
P - Seems like we're set here.
K - We will probably need to get a kicker to step in after Moldonado (who I think gets waaaaay too much flak).
I know we're a bit short on space next year. Now that we know our incoming class, it would be nice to see how many spaces we'll have next year. Anyway, here's my tally (and I'm no expert):
QB - 1
RB - 2
WR - 2.5
TE - 1
OLine - 5
S - 1.5
CB - 2.5
LB - 3.5
DE - 2
DT - 2
K - 1
That seems like too many, so we'll probably have to round down on any of the 1/2s, maybe some of the others as well. Thoughts?
I love how you have .5 players. We will be looking into the nations top midgets. Excuse me...little people. Got to keep it P.C. I think we're looking good in recruiting in 2013. If we can get to another BCS bowl and win the Pac again I think recruits will be flocking to us. If we beat USC at SC it will be big, really big. Right now there's alot of hype surrounding SC, but if we play them like we played the 4th quarter this past year we will handle the Trojans. It will be so gratifying to go and knock the Trojans off at the collesium. I can't wait for DAT to put up 200+ multi purpose yds on the mighty SC. I had to watch Bennets and Mariotas highlights again last night and watching them gets me amped up. Both if them. I love DT don't get me wrong, but these two are impressive. I honestly think they have better arms and are faster then DT, but the question is do they have the confidence and the desire ti win like DT had? I think so. Bennett impressed me so much when he stepped in those few games. I'm very intrigued to see who wins the starting roll next year. Bennett proved his a cool, collected character on the field and it looks like MM will be the same. I truly feel the Natty's right around the corner. Going back to the SC game it's going to help us so much that it's not a week after playing Stanford. We basically played two top ten teams one after the other. This year will be rested and ready to roll. Chip will not let us lose that game. It won't happen. We need to be all over Barkley and our young, more experienced corners need to shut Lee and Woods down. If we can force them to run there's no way they can beat us. Fully rambling here. Next year can't come soon enough.
"Release Me Cuhhhhhhhh"
USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.
