Strange, but true!
There are kids out there who do factor it in, but it's usually down the list a ways.
Kinda like when someone mentions how great our unu are.
Then there are he kids who roll their ankles in an Adidas shoe and swear to never wear them again.
I guess being an Oregon fan that shouldn't be an unbelievable thing. I'm sure a few recruits have picked us in large part to our Nike connection.
Why do you think you had no chance at Love? He was an Adidas kid, after he and nike had a falling out when he decided to go to an adidas sponcered tourney his jr year of hs. Shoe/apparel companies have a big say in where kids are going.

I didn't follow closely when Love was in high school but whatever the truth is in recruiting, it is ridiculous to me that kids decide where they are going to spend (potentially) the next four years of their life by what shoes they get to wear. I have played basketball my whole live (granted not at the same level as these guys) and I have had puma, addidas, nike, and rebook shoes throughout my "career". What shoes you wear shouldn't be a deciding factor in my opinion.
Kevin Love was the exception to the proverbial rule. He's straight Nike ... Actually got kicked out of an Adidas AAU tournament (that was in Houston, I believe) for wearing Nikes ...
I've known Stan Love, since 1968. I know the lay of the land, re. Kevin Love.
Had Dana Altman (or had Jerry Green, Mark Turgeon, or Bobby Braswell, for that matter) had been the HC at Oregon, Kevin would absolutely have been a Duck.
The Loves were not going to play for Ernie Kent ... period ... the reasons are rather numerous. But, this is ancient history ... the chapter has closed.
Note that Kevin Love wears Nikes, as an NBA player ...
It's not so much the shoes, per se ... it's the relationships you form, with the people associated with said shoe companies, i.e., AAU types, and shoe company schmoozers.
Just took a looksy over at UA's Scout board and they all are extremely confident re Gordon. Actually the banter is mostly about them & UW as the players for AG. Who knows, but it will hilarious to shock them both and land him.
How could he not want to come play for oregon with who theyre losing and whos coming back. I doubt he will want to split time with brandon ashley, plus he will have a lot of familiar faces in eugene with artis, bell, and the twins. He would take Oregon another step closer. He wants to be a program changer abd Oregon imo fits the best.
You make too much logical sense, 4th&Touchdown. Sadly, too many decisions, of this nature are made with the emotion gland, rather than the logic gland.
Like the average annual rainfall and scantily clad hotties walking around campus?!?
Well then lets hope he's logistically emotional.
You clearly don't go to U of O if you think our hotties are "scantily clad"
I was talking about AZ-make sense now?
Graduated in '04 buddy.
NO, sir... Kevin had the one little spat with Nike Basketball, but it was short-lived. Kevin Love was and is a Nike guy, all the way ... The only reason he didn't go to Oregon is because of who was coaching us, at that time ... had Dana Altman, Jerry Green, Mark Turgeon, or Mark Few been the HC, it would have been an absolute, 100% slam dunk for us.
I know a few Kansas fans, and they've told me that they've lost out on a few recruits because of KU's affiliation with Adidas. It happens all the time, and some recruits will only have Nike or Adidas schools in their top 5.
Another example is Shabazz Muhammad. Due to his affiliation with Adidas, it led to UCLA being the number one destination for him.

When I think of Basketball clothing/Shoes, I just dont think of Adidas.
The only thing that makes me think of Adidas is Easter Euro gangsters.
The only thing that makes me think of Adidas is high school 1972 North Eugene around the time Nike first came out
Don't forget the Pump Brothers in this ... All their Adidas tournaments, their Adidas-affiliated AAU teams, Adidas college programs ... they're all joined to the hip ...
Mario Chalmers is a great example of this. The Pumps were parading him around ... "parading" is a polite word for it ... and let it be known that Chalmers would only be going to an Adidas school ...
These are the same Dana and David Pump twins, who got caught in the ticket scalping scheme, with college coaches' Final Four seats ... and THAT was a very small tip of a very large iceberg, where these two are concerned.
(Adidas schools include Kansas (see Curtis Townsend), UCLA, Indiana, Baylor, Michigan (see former asst. Curtis Townsend), Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Nebraska, NC State ... who am I forgetting here?
