6.9 60 meter dash at his meet

"Release Me Cuhhhhhhhh"
Decent. Mathis has run a 6.83 and James has run as 6.76 I believe.

Not that impressive considering rumors of a sub 4.4 40
those numbers help put it in perspective.
its fast enough for a guy who's 6' 2", sprinters stereo typically are shorter like mathis or LMJ
It's also just one race
He's fast enough, we need these guys to catch the ball. I swear we dropped more balls last season over a 3 game span than Mahel did in his entire career.
Mathis ran a 6.80 in the prelims of the same meet that Kelley ran the 6.90. Mathis finished 3rd in the final and Kelley 8th.
not bad, but no where close to 4.4
first, meters are longer than yards.
second, electronically timed is at least a tenth of a difference.
so... pretty close to 4.4
Meters instead of yards. Can't believe I didn't realize that. Sorry guys
Plus, you have to realize that the 40y dash is run on the runner's start. The 60m is off the gun. Reaction times, by rule cannot be quicker than .1 seconds. Elite sprinters average around .15 seconds. These guys are not elite sprinters and probably have not trained their reaction times much.
It isn't a very fast time, but it's not slow.

Ohh yeah hand timed by his HS coach he probably runs a 4.2. But in actual times he doesnt run close to a 4.4.
LMJ ran a signifcantly faster 60 than BJ and was timed in the 40 at 4.59 by Oregon electronically. Im not hating on the kid, I just get sick of all these inflated 40 times. Running a legit 4.4 is crazy fast.

I love that people still think Oregon reports accurate 40 times(that or we run our 40's on Stanford's field.) 2 years ago they said Maehl ran a 4.8, then at the combine he ran a 4.6 on a notoriously slow track. I don't care how hard you work, a elite conditioned athlete just isn't going to shave that much time off your 40. Oh and no way is LMJ only a couple of a hundredths faster than Jeff.

In high school it literally killed me going from yards to meters. That x-tra ten yards killed my stamina. I have great admiration for these kids. On a side note. Never thought I would live long enough to see a runner as talented as Insane Bolt. Wow! Go Ducks!! Where does the time go?
One of many reasons why people's obsession with 40 times is borderline absurd.
Are they in pads? No
Are they timed from the snap? No
Are players always indoors on a track surface? No
Does it take into account change of direction? No
+1 -- good analysis. The football 40y is a completely different animal than the track 60m.
To put in perspective, Florida football player (and track star) Demps ran a 6.53 indoor 60 meter last year (note:he has a 9.96 100m outdoor track best and a 4.18 40 yard football run best) and PAC 12 best so far this year is 6.63. A 6.9 is okay but would not even place him in the top 100 in NCAA rankings. If Dior and BJ can improve on that reaction time and get down in the 6.6 range then they can be some serious players as far as track and field.
I would really like to see DAT, Tacoi, and Devon on the track team.

Great points guys the 40 time argument always bothers me because so many things reflect your time at a given meet and you really can't compare unless everyone races on the same track and on he same day with th same conditions...so lay off these guys. They are there competing and improving their skills and speed for our track and football teams, be proud of them and support them and as far as how fast are they well that gets sorted out on the field.
Well done Dior and kelley at your FIRST meet of the season keep up the hard work.
Sorry but was I off base with my rant...
