No way he does that without the ground work laid by Bellotti and Brooks before him. Chip is a great coach but he walked into a great situation.
I feel you here, Natty. It's a character flaw and it's also, more precisely, naked ambition. CK is probably is one the worlds' most bizarre communicators. I dunno if he ever truly reveals his inner s*** to anybody. But one thing is for certain, he wants the challenge of succeeding at the highest level and maybe the vitriol that he's gonna have to endure from us fans makes his jet exit even easier. I know lotsa folks who burn bridges to make snapping soemthing off cleaner.
That being said, this flocking sucks.

Better o and d lines something we have not recruited well this year. There lines are what beat us this year.
Ya, this jriv_from_Otown guy keeps following the rules and his posts keep disappearing.

I still think if Oregon believes it is a top 10 program in the NCAA....which it should, then promoting an assistant is a poor move. Especially when guys like Chris Peterson would jump to this job
Stuff happens. Dana Altman quit as coach at Arkansas one day after he was announced and then returned to Creighton. If Chip's heart is elsewhere UO is better with a replacement. Mullen is a solid AD. Helfrich is a native son and wants to raise his young family in Eugene. The sad thing is the hit to this class of recruits. However, I would rather get sucker punched once than beat up for another year.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I doubt Vick would last very long in that offense, so he'd better go out and get tebow as a back up.
Oregon will be fine, they've reached a good consistent level of play and that nike money will help bring in a good coach, just like that money brought in the players.
Weeeeee.... Fight On!
In all seriousness though, I really hoped we could spank him one time before he left. I guess beating you guys at home and knocking you out of the NC in 2011 will have to suffice.
Do you have one ounce of proof? Don't sell it as fact when it's just your own speculation.
Calling Chris Peterson
About Petersen? No, it is purely speculation that he would leave Boise to come to Oregon. He spent 6 years here under Belotti, so not only would it be a huge upgrade in jobs, but also a coming home of sorts
Chip was magic in a visor
Asking any coach to continue the same scheme is a lot to ask. I like Cowherds line earlier today. If Chip Kelly makes 6 decisions a day, and Helfrich makes those same 6, he is bound to change 1 of those decisions a day, which equals about 300 different changes a year
Please don't shoot the messenger, but what I was told this morning by a relative who is good friends with someone who used to work with Coach A, is that the friend spoke with Coach A this morning, and Coach A told them that this was in part due to a financial disagreement between Chip and UO, that Chip wanted Urban Meyer money and the university wasn't willing to go there this year. This allegedly prompted Chip to revisit the Philadelphia situation...
I have been passed information by this person before, and for the most part (but not always) it has been accurate. So, since this information is now about 5th party, take it for what it's worth...
Regardless of the reason(s) why, the timing is extremely unfortunate.
Petersen has more than proven he can coach his backside off. So yes, I'd rather take a hit for 1 season and land who I believe to be a better coach overall. Helfrich could prove me wrong, and if he gets the job I sure as heck hope he does. It's just my opinion
Yep, and maybe 1 of those decisions would have been to kick the FG early vs Stanford, then to go for it.
They other thing GY you continue to completly igore is the fact Peterson runs a totally diffrent style of O. UO is chalk full of guys built for the spread, and if you haven't noticed the NFL is starting to embrace the style UO has been playings since 2005. Why go from being ahead of the curve, to going backwards? SC could never stop this O, while they and UW own pro style O's. No thanks, don't want to go back to that.
IMO the coaching search should be Helf, Strong, Mullens and a call to A&M to see if Sumlin would listen.

Change is the name of the game ..
The days are getting longer and some day the sun will reappear in Western Oregon.
Entropy and third law of thermodynamics predict that chaos is the natural state of things and that the universe seeks disorder. The purpose of life is to fight the universal tide.
As we age, we dislike the changes that occur within us. That is why external change is so hard to accept as we get older.
Next man up
Lesean McCoy just moved way up my fantasy football draft board.
Keep bringing the good stuff (derp). Keep bringing us info JHop. It's not always your job to be the hate monitor.
He did. I wouldn't expect that "search" to take long though. They know who their man is.
I was wondering if Green and Yellow has ever heard of Dave Devaney? He was the Nebraska HC, and won 2 titles. He had a system that worked, and picked a little know coordinator to take over who he knew would keep that same system in place. The new coach was a guy by the name of Tom Osborne, he seemed to do ok.
IMO Oregon is a lot like those Nebraska teams, we get some very good recruits, but rarely have top recruiting classes. But our system works so well and our coaches get the very most out of what the players have. Unlike the SC or Florida's, Oregon will never have a top 5 recruiting class, but as long as our system is in place we will be successful.
I didn't know that! But my point keeps getting more proven. It's Helf time. They should announce by this afternoon.
