I know this is recruiting, and this is how a lot of it works, but I just don't like us jerking kids around if that's ever the case I'd be disappointed..
I would love to see Kelley end up a Duck but if we can somehow land Story, Farmer, Lee, and Vaughn (adding on top of Sumler) I would be ok not landing Kelley. How are we looking on those other guys Jhop?
I imagine this type of issue is something the Ducks might have to deal with a bit more as the profile of the program gets bigger. Its tough when top talents like Story, Flowers, Lee, etc, want to go through the process while a guy like Kelley wants to jump at the opportunity. Comes with the territory of being a top ranked team and going after top recruits.
I would be happy taking Kelley since he seems to be a sure thing. I dont like that the coaches havent gotten back to him.
Completely agree that this is a result of the talent we are going after. A lot of times in the past we were going after guys that had UO as their best offer, now we're going after guys that have a lot of great offers. You've got to play the wait and see game, which may or may not result in some doors closing along the way.
I'm failing to understand what news this is telling us... Did we tell him not to visit? If he is visiting this weekend and commits, there isn't much we can do because we offered him. Have we pulled the offer or something?
I guess i'm a little confused as well? I thought Kelley was a major target and that he wants to be a DUCK first? Now I don't know where we stand with Bigs? It seemed like a VERY good chance to get his committment had we gotten Kelley? Kelley is 6'2, runs a 4.3/ 4.4 man what more do we want?? No one really knows about Farmer, other then the latest, wants to get into aviation and that USC has the program for that so i don't consider farmer a legit target at this time.
I hope that we dont lose out on Kelley trying to wait and see if we get Story or Farmer. I dont think we get either of those guys, so I am in the camp of taking Kelley and Bigs, and if Story or Farmer wants to be a Duck we find room for them at that point.
FWIW it sounds as though if Kelley was allowed to commit prior to visiting he would have.
I like Kelley's size.... he seem's like he would make a bruising downfield blocker after a little strength conditioning with coach Rad..... that is such an important part of our game I would be surprised if we passed on him....
Maybe were passing on kelly cuz we are Goin to put lee at reciever and take walls at safety

I think I have it figured out. Another WR is coming in and wants to see the depth. Will commit if depth not to bad. If Kelley commits now, could scare off the other guy, so the coaches are asking Kelley to wait until they get the other guy, then he can commit. Just my thought, nothing to base it on.
DK fan that sounds plausible, except from Biggins on ESPN Kelley says he hasn't talked to Oregon for several weeks and that they aren't returning his calls. To me that is bad form by the Ducks if they can't give him some info on what is going on.
That sounds odd to me that the coaches wouldnt have talked to him in a few weeks. My guess is that the coaches have been uber busy and will be visiting/calling him soon.
I would be surprised if they dropped all contact on a WR that is close to the top of their 'want" list.

Kelley has liked Oregon a lot for a long time...hopefully we take him. I like the kids that haved liked UO for the entire cycle and don't have to be convinced to come here.

Listen guys. I know we liked the prospect of Kelley. BUT if we can get a better WR, I'm all for it. Without risk there is no reward and no one knows this better than Chip "Big Balls" Kelly himself. What if we were only taking Kelley to get Bigs and now that Bigs might be leaning another way, we want to take a better WR that we have higher rated on our board? It isn't always going to make sense to the fanbase, but I think we need to let the do their thing. To get Blackmon and Sumler already in this class is very very nice. Instead of Kelley, they think they can capitalize on the steam we're building this year and get a Story or Lee or Farmer? Let's let things play out before we start throwing coaches under the bus.
I feel the same way as Technical does. I'd hate to miss on a sure thing who loves Oregon than miss on someone else. I hope the staff has the decency to return Kelley's calls. I wish he had tripped earlier, but playoff games are not to be missed either. Timing sucks for him.
I don't want to always choose the kids that have liked us for awhile to be honest. I want the best players possible. It's what all the big programs aim to be. That's what our staff wants too.
I think we are maybe missing one piece here as well. Should Bigelow be leaning to Cal, then we have an extra spot available right? Our true priorities are DT/DE/WR. Bigs was extra from the beginning. Carson has been the real target as he has developed out of the same school as James (Liberty/Elyau I think?). So my point, drop Bigelow, add Story or whoever if possible, and still get Kelley should the stars align. That seems to be happening much more often with our Ducks these days.
At this point I feel like Blackmon is a sure thing. Him and Mathis have been talking on twitter, and it seemed to me that both of them know he will sign with Oregon. Mathis made a comment to him this week of something to the extent "we're future teamates"
