The three kids I'm about to mention are my clear top three wants at WR for the '14 class. All three have high interest in Oregon and have been contacted. I really hope offers go out to them soon.
5* WR Miciah Quick...6'1", 180 lbs(California)
4* WR Barry Ware...6'3", 185 lbs(California)
4* WR Jalen Brown...6'2", 180 lbs(Arizona)
All three of them are extremely talented. Quick is just that...Quick. Big time playmaker when he gets the ball in his hands. Has decent size to work in the blocking scheme as well. Would be a perfect fit for Oregon as a receiver and special teams.
Ware is a beast and I love his mechanics. He has good length, good speed and at 6'3", 185 lbs right now he could easily get up to 195 lbs and be a physical force to be reckoned with. One of the things I love about the kid is he catches the ball with his hands, not his body. He plays like a college player already. With his size and skill he would be a great weapon for the Ducks.
Also, it doesn't hurt that he is friends and was teammates with current Oregon Duck, Cameron Hunt. The Hunt connection could definitely be key.
Finally, there's Jalen Brown. He has it all. Good speed, great hands and good size. Excellent route runner and plays with a high IQ. Like Ware, he catches the ball with his hands, away from his body. I love seeing that in high school kids. It shows confidence and and technique. He doesn't play scared. I like that alot. All three of these kids aren't afraid to get at it and go up for the ball and come down with it. These are my top three wants for WR. Please let them get offers.
If someone could please link all three of these kids profiles to this thread it would be appreciated. I can't do it from my phone. Everyone should take a close look at these potential targets.
Dude, you are way too into this. What do you do for a living? However, that said, I do appreciate all the knowledge/opinions that you provide on this board.
Here we go.
Hating on dionte Sykes? He has already unofficially visited with safety JR Hunt
I would add Demare Kitt to this list. I believe he is one of the few kids who already has an offer.
+1 Great post. I appreciate the excellent research.
Thanks K2O2D and Rkeith. You know the deal, cheers.
Thank you sir. +1
Agree. Kitt and Speedy Noil round out my top five and they both have UO offers. Kitt and Noil have both said Oregon is in their top five, but I don't see Noil anywhere besides LSU and it looks like Suburban Meyer is going after Kitt pretty aggresively. Kitt was actually in Columbus this past weekend. He'll be tough to pull from OSU imo. I personally like Quick, Ware and Brown more and I think we'd have a better chance with them.
Oh yeah. Good call BIQ. I forgot about Sykes. He's definitely up there as well. Sykes is a beast. Love his size. +1
I evaluate HS football players for a living. On the side as a hobby, I co-own three businesses in Eugene and I am the event/exhibit coordinator for the American Visionary Museum of Art while I've been living in Baltimore. I like to multitask:)
KOD, who will the Ducks look at for the DAT position next year given that they missed on Wilson? Are there players of a similar caliber in 2014?
Miciah Quick kind of fits the DAT mold, but he's more of a true WR ie Addison. Speedy Noil is another one who could fit into the Tazer roll. He plays WR, QB and RB, plus ST's for his HS team. The kid from Colorado we just offered, Christian McCaffrey would be a good fit for Tazer. He can lineup as a RB or as a receiver.
When I think Tazer, I don't think the have to be DAT size, but more of an All purpose kind of player who is dangerous in space and can lineup anywhere. That's why I think Joe Mixon would be a great Tazer. Kid is electric all over the field. To be honest, I didn't understand all the fuss over Mixon and while I thought he was good, I wasn't blown away by him.
I first watched his highlights a few months ago and it turned out the video I watched was of his sophmore highlights. After all the recent fuss and boat loads of offers to him recently I decided to watch his highlights again and this time I watched his junior tape. Paint me sold. His sophmore to junior highlights are like night and day imo. He progressed alot in one year. Mixon is very talented and would be a good option for Tazer.
There's one kid from Florida who I keep mentioning that I really, really like. Tony James is his name. I'm not sure he would be best fit for a true RB or the Tazer spot, but he has Duck written all over him. He's 5'9.5", 175 lbs and is the most electric kid I've watched on tape for the '14 class. He's a big track star. He was clocked running a 4.34 40 and he put up a mind blowing 60 and 100 time as well. I forget what they were, but they were fast.
I hate comparing players, but he's the closet thing I've seen to DAT and LMJ I've seen. He's kind of a mixture of the two so that's why I'm not sure if he'd fit best as a RB or tazer. He does have good hands and makes plenty of catches out of the backfield.
It doesn't hurt that he likes Oregon alot. He has offers from all the Florida schools, Ohio St and others. When asked about Oregon he said "I pray to God, they are my next offer." Lol. I think that says it all. When asked what it is about Oregon he likes his response was "Speed. They are all about speed. That fits me." I'm telling you Dread, watch his highlights and I guarantee you'll be impressed.
How many will we take? 2 at most. I like due diligence, but with the current state of recruiting we do need to get more offers out there. To players like Quick and Alfieri
I know Justin sad that we're considering him as Anthony Thomas position... But he's not 5'9 and 173, Christian McCaffrey is 6-0 and 195 He has the kind of body that can be an every down back..... Will have to see how that plays out and how we recruit him...
I submit for your consideration Mark Andrews: 6'6" 225 lbs. from Arizona. This kid is an absolute monster! And check it, he is not a tight end, despite the height. In his reel, you see him beating fools to jump balls and outrunning speedy DBs down the sideline. I love the fight in his play. We could use him at TE of course but his mass and giddyup is a rare breed for wideouts. SEND LUBICK IN TO LOCK THIS KID UP.

Oh, and the word is already out on this kid. He boasts offers form Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma and just last week, USC. Gotta get in there soon.
KOD, do you think a prototypical Mammoth WR like my Mr. Andrews is the kind of guy the Ducks are less likely to gun for becuase he is atypical of their atheltes? Or is he just too much of a bullet train behemoth to pass up? Arizona ain't that far. I think we could pull him.
We went after Duarte and we are always looking for blockin at the position. I would think a jumbo wideout would make sense. Hard to say with the new regime though, if there is one position on the field I could see them handling differently it would be wideout. Helf sounds like he wants to throw it more, that could mean more traditional WR's.
KOD, you are the man this time of year. I really appreciate the info you give regarding upcoming prospects that it would take me months to become familiar with otherwise.
