I realize that the atmospherics of Matt Knight are different from Mac, but geez was I disappointed in the Pit Crew yesterday. I was a part of the Pit Crew from 2002-06; we would work ourselves into a deranged frenzy of jumping, screaming and chanting every game win or lose. What I saw yesterday was more students standing with their arms crossed observing the game than acting like they have a role to play in the outcome. This team is awesome and deserves more than they are getting. Please, I am begging, jump...stomp...scream...yell obscenities... chant "Deadbeat Dad" if that is what it takes to get you into it. The Pit Crew is more than just yelling "O".
Deadbeat dad was the greatest chant ever!!!
I did here a no means no - I thought that was pretty good
Totally feel you, here, khartos. Is it wrong to mant more focus, nastiness and ferocity from our gang? MK currently lack an intimdation factor that Mac Court had in spades. Only mid-season. These kids will find their mallard mojo.
I have always been partial to "your son hates you" and " Gary Coleman " . The mean spirited chants seemed to take a hit after the Kevin Love fiasco, but I did love when Mac was a hostile environment in every sense of the word. The Pit needs to do a little research prior to games and find the dirt on the incoming teams. That was always part of the plan when I was going to school. I was fortunate enough to be going to school during the two Luke's era so Mac was always packed and always hostile.
I miss watching games in Mac court
It's because it's a rivalry game and a lot of people who don't know anything about basketball went for the social aspect. It's not usually that bad, but it was definitely pretty lame. People sat down at timeouts, which I wouldn't have done either if I wasn't the only one standing in my section LOL. The Arizona game was much better in my opinion.
Compared to recent games, last night was a 360 turn around and I hope it continues going up. And it was a sell out! I loved the Mac,but am in no way going to quit on this beautiful new venue. The new recruits have no idea about the Mac and MKA is absolutely mind blowing... Thank you uncle Phil!
it wont happen. that was my 6th game of the year. If number 3 arizona can only bring in 9,000 fans, its pretty obvious that the sellout was due to playing UW. People came because everyone hates UW. WSU and arizona state were both around the 6,000 mark. Its embarrassing. Funny people are picking on the student section, that is ALWAYS full. I also know students who pay for tickets, also something many older duck fans arent doing. Our team should be pissed, but not at the students.
Much has been made about the Pit Crew becoming a brand with all the swag they get from Nike. Fancy track jackets and Air Jordans don't make it a brand. Being so loud and rambunctious that you can make the backboards sway and the opposing coach call you deranged idiots is a brand.
I'm disappointed at what the students sections have become. I remember coming to my first Ducks football game when I was in 6th grade. The student section filled up an hour before kickoff. The students were incredibly loud and into the game. They also didn't leave at halftime if the outcome of the game wasn't in doubt. They stayed in the stands until the final whistle. Now, the student section won't fill up even ten minutes before kickoff/tipoff, or even after the game has started.
I think one way to fix this would be to bring back the old way of distributing student tickets. The most loyal and emphatic students are the ones who will camp out in front of the ticket office to get their tickets. With the new system being completely online, any student can get a ticket if they're lucky, and they don't even have to care about the teams or affecting the outcome of the games.
My favorite chant was from the WSU game that was supposed to be the last Pac-12 game in Mac. The Pit Crew Post mentioned that one of Wazzu's players knocked up his foster sister. So all the students started chanting "Foster Sister"
The ref came over and told us to stop because "the man has been through a tragedy"

Yes, it's full. But how come students don't jump anymore? I realize that some of the past traditions were lost due to some pretty abysmal teams since 2007 which led to a lack of interest and continuity in leadership, but some of the basic parts of being a fan in the student section just seem completely gone - like jumping and being rowdy. I am disappointed that the Pit Crew admin hasn't shown more leadership to get the student section back to what it used to be, maybe they don't know. But it's going to come from a core group of diehards that everyone else feeds off.
The louder and rowdier the pit crew is, the louder the rest of the arena will be. Honestly, the pit crew should be part of the entertainment of a basketball game a la Gary Coleman/Nate Robinson, Steve Lavin and Henry Bibby and countless other games. Matt Knight Arena will probably never be as imposing as Mac, but it doesn't mean it can't be entertaining, loud and obnoxious.
I think part of it is that Duck Athletics has turned the game into a more NBA-like atmosphere, which is wrong. Now we have students looking up at the scoreboard watching a stupid car race than chanting or yelling during a break in play.

I don't want to knock on the current Pit Crew but I do agree that a major opportunity is being missed.
Unlike the NBA, where the players are hardened veterans, college basketball players are 19-21 year old kids that can be easily shaken by loud obnoxious fans. The Pit Crew and the rest of the fans can seriously affect the outcome of the game, just as they do at Autzen.
I hope all the fans realize this and step up their game.

We sell out our section, sometimes over 100% official capacity (like the Arizona/UW games). You can rag on us once you've done the same.
I go to games, but I like to fit in, so I really don't make any noise. As long as my new lid still has the sticker on it, the 4G in the arena works well enough for Foursquare check-ins and I look extra swaggy in my swaggy Nike swag, Im good.
Look good. Feel good. Nothing else matters. Just do it.
Erine was great at getting the pit crew going
Exactly. We have been selling out our allotment and have even taken extra seats that were not sold. I find it funny that after MKA finally sold out that fans go ahead and attack the Pit Crew. Part of what made Mac Court special was that it wasn't just the Pit Crew getting involved. If the rest of the arena sells out and gets involved, then no one will be complaining about the Pit Crew.
Edit: I'd also like to point out that Dana Altman said after the Arizona game that the students really got the team into the game and made it a great environment. He could have said the fans, but he said the students. So, Dana Altman is hoping the general fan will step their game up.

I think you're missing the point, and badly. As a student you are afforded some liberties that as an adult surrounded by a group of children and a 65 yr old lady I am not. If I scream at the ref that he is a "a blind co#k suc#$r " and that I plan on baking his first born child in an oven if he makes another bad call, I will be asked to leave. You have the opportunity to be obnoxious, loud, offensive, reak of whiskey and nobody will bat an eye. Take advantage of the opportunity, being a college student unfortunatly doesn't last forever.
You can still get off of your seat and cheer. It's not that hard.
They have pissed off many of the old long time season ticket holders! I had hoops tickets for 14 years until this year. My seats at Mac were 14 rows from the floor and when I got to choose my seats there wasn't anything comparable to what I had at Mac even if I could have afforded the same quality of seat. I stuck it out for 2 years in the new building cause I love watching college hoops, but in the end my seats cost way too much for the quality of them. In my opinion they screwed up making the seats in the upper section so far away. I was in row 1 up there and it's like looking at ants playing hoops. Until they wake up and realize that they have over priced themselves or until they make it right with the long time season ticket holders that they alienated with the change in buildings. I know a few that wouldn't go to game even if they got free tickets after how bad they got the shaft at the building switch.
So only students can cheer and be rowdy the whole game? I don't think so.
Uhhh.... I didn't say I couldn't cheer and be loud the whole time, but the nastiness of the venue, or the creation of a hostile environment needs to be led by the students. Cameron Indoor isn't a tough environment because of the boosters in the club seats, its because of the "Crazies" courtside. They have the proximity to the court, and the ability to be as rowdy as they want. I generally sit next to a seventy year old couple and there are kids behind me, so I have to be somewhat subdued. I've spent my time in the Pit, and the ones I've watched of late seem less loud/intimidating than the one's I remember from years past. I'm 33 so it's not like I'm reminiscing about the good 'ol days.
