D Blackmon transferring

  • Not surprised considering Addison jumped him and who we have coming in. Goes to show if you don't block you don't play.

I had high hopes for him and Andre Y. Sigh.

How do we know he can't block? Maybe he can't run a good route but is a hell of a blocker. Maybe he's decent in all phases of the game, but not better then the guys in front of him?

No, and I have no idea why he lumped Andre in with this.

Both were from same class and neither have played except in mop up duty.

So? Meanwhile guys like Johnstone and Fisher have exceeded expectations.

Still not sure why you mentioned Andre. O-Linemen often take a lot of time to get settled with few exceptions.

Andre Y. is a freshman offensive lineman, it's very rare that he would play at this point.

  • Andre is a FR, sometimes guys take a couple/few years to play up to potential. I would bet he see's a lot of time next year. I know in this day and age, everyone thinks they need to play now, but that's not realistic all the time. Look at Lache, he didn't want to wait his turn and learn at UO but the last 2 games he is starting to figure it out at Baylor. College is a different beast then HS, and not everyone is going to walk right in and play up to their expectations.

  • govduck: Thanks for the update on Devon Blackmon. It's unfortunate whenever you hear about a student athlete experiencing a let-down or having things come more slowly than they would have wished. It's especially unfortunate when they decide to transfer.

Just so you know, bad mouthing student athletes is not a very good look. Devon Blackmon has been a great teammate and has made contributions to two very successful Oregon Duck teams. If he takes in all the information and believes he can be more successful in another program, we can all accept that. No need to make comments about blocking and playing time.

Let's just wish Devon Blackmon the best of luck if this transfer rumor turns out to be true.

I think a more appropriate player to group DBlack with would be Tacoi Sumler. Both seemed to have high ceilings, just never panned out.

I know this won't be a popular opinion here but I think Lache was unceremoniously buried on the depth chart and nudged out of the program.

Yep, agree, I had high hopes for both even knowing they were a bit raw. But I am thankful (since it's Thanksgiving week) that it's players who aren't making the two-deep that are transferring rather than ones who are getting themselves into trouble and getting kicked off.

USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.

I think he was buried far more than he would've been, just because he was on Chip's bad side, so I can understand his frustrations with the program. Not saying it's Chip's fault though, Lache had changes he needed to make and never really did.

Who would he have played in front of, LMJ, KB or DaT? DaT happened to Lache!

I think Ayele Forde passing him up on the depth chart was the big deal, being behind the other three was reasonable.

Not saying that, but when the Lyles stuff was at its peak he was down to 6th on the depth chart. I don't believe the school wanted him to see the field.

  • Blackmon remember never played receiver full time in high school. He was IMO always going to be a guy who would need a few years to 'learn' the rigors of playing college football at receiver. I still think he will end up being a good player but at Oregon you have to be physical in the blocking game, practice well every single week, and understand all of the playbook. On top of that you need to be able to run crisp routes to get open. Blackmon struggled in all of those areas at Oregon and with guys like Stanford and Addison passing him up things were looking tough to get into the lineup early.
