It sounds like we really want him and I truly believe he knows this so I think we're just leaving it up to him now.Giving him time to think it over and make up his mind.He hasn't commited to Cal yet so I'm sure he's just weighing his options.I wonder if he would play right away at Cal or would he be depth his first year.Cal has talented DLmen so he might not run in and start right away.I wonder if we would play him immediately.What do you all think?

From articles earlier in the week, it sounded to me like Chip was trying to make plans for an in-home visit but Arik had basketball and other coaches visiting this week. Azz went down and spoke briefly with the Dad. What was said? "Hey, if you have any interest in us why not make time for Chip to visit you?" Perhaps something like that? As a complete outsider, why wouldn't they give as much respect for Chip's time as he was attempting to make for them? They made their choices on who to prioritize and see; we read the handwriting on the wall and are going a different direction. To say after the fact we should have tried harder is somebody rationalizing the fact they are losing out on an offer from the best program in the Pac-12. IMO it's as reasonable as any other explanation.

Justin wrote that we would be the lead horse in the race if we had continued to put the full court press on, pretty easy to understand. I'm confident that Justin knows way more about the details than you, me, or two other Duck posters. I certainly don't understand why the coached made the decision they did. But sometimes what appears to be common sense to us, is not common sense if you have all of the info. So, unless you're implying that Justin is BS'ing us, I will wait until we get the full story.

It's not like Cal was Armstead's fallback option. I was saying over two weeks ago that Cal was making a huge push for Armstead which culminated with his trip to Berkely after which most Bear fans consider him a borderline lock. There is no shame to admit a recruit changed leaders towards the end of the recruiting process. Pretending otherwise comes across as sour grapes.

The list changes all the time. I wouldn't read too much into that comment

It all boils down to Tosh Lupoi !
If he wasn't at Cal Armstead would probably be a Duck. The guy has got to be hands down the best recruiter in the country, as he was named by rivals last year. I wish I knew what he was telling these kids. Hope he get's a DC or head coaching job out of the Pac 12.......SOON!

He probably takes them to a really nice restaurant and then the strip club.Talks about Cali pride and says things like you will be part of the best team college football has seen in decades while they get a lap dance.And instead of putting money in the dancers g string Tosh puts a Ben Franklin in the recruits pocket.After that they go back to Tosh's house and play XBox until the sun comes up.

Not to be mr negative (more a realist) but to say getting Buckner makes up for not getting Armstead (which isn't exactly set in stone yet) is silly. I watched Buckner's videos last night. He looks good, but he isn't flat out dominating and tossing guys aside with ease like an Armstead or Mario Edwards (no. 1 DE in country per espn-- FSU commit). There's definitely a difference in the two.
Also Castro's highlight video on espn was kinda underwhelming?? Didnt really stand out from other guys on his own team. Marshall's on espn is strangely "okay" too. It's all against one team. I k kw he has better videos out there. I think espn just doesn't make fhe effort to post the most comprehensive video.
Just hoping we land at least one more big splash 4 star across the board type.
