Dontre Wilson pushes decision back. Let the games begin!

  • Surprise we are making up this much ground. Texas is pretty much out. Very encouraging for my buckeyes that we caused him to change his date.

While the Ducks are getting set for the 2012 season, the coaches remain extremely busy with recruiting for the 2013 class. On Saturday, in Texas, 4-star athlete Dontre Wilson announced his intention to delay his commitment decision.

Wilson had planned to verbally commit to a college on May 25, the same day as DeSoto High School's spring game. He told Hornsnation that he will not be prepared to make a decision by that date.

“I thought about it. I was going to commit, but I can’t,” Wilson said. “I wanted to push it back because I have to make sure it’s right for me. I was going to commit just to get the pressure off my back.”

Oregon and Texas remain the frontrunners to get a commitment from Wilson, but Urban Meyer and Ohio State are making a late, strong push to overtake the Ducks and Longhorns.

“I’ve been talking to Urban Meyer on the phone,” he said. “That’s a blessing to me. He’s one of the best coaches ever. To me, they’re making a good push.”

According to ESPN, Meyer is quickly gaining ground because of his track record of getting his college players into the NFL. In addition, he has concerns about playing time at Texas, which would likely leave the final competition between Oregon and Ohio State.

“I’m just looking out for my future. Texas, they’re four-deep at running back,” Wilson said. “They tell me I’ll be like D.J. Monroe, but D.J. Monroe barely got the ball. That’s affecting Texas.

“Oregon, they will always be up there because Oregon is that perfect offense for me – a speed offense. But it might not be the right fit, I don’t know.”

Wilson spent four days on Oregon's Eugene campus this spring, and he plans to visit Ohio State soon, but the idea of attending school far from home may play a major role in his decision and, ultimately, lead Wilson to commit to Texas anyway.

“Wherever I go, I’m going to make it a business decision,” he said. “Being homesick, that’s something you can’t have when you go off to college because you’re by yourself.”

Wilson now plans on delaying his decision until late in, or even after, his senior high school football season comes to an end.

For Oregon fans, the 5'10, 176 pound frame would be an ideal fit in Oregon's backfield, especially with Wilson's 4.40 40-yard time. Rivals ranks Wilson as the number two overall all-purpose back in the nation and the 186th overall player in the 2013 recruiting class.

  • "But it might not be the right fit" is the line that concerns me. Meyer is too good on the trail. He's a good player, and I would love him at Oregon as he's got the perfect skillset to play RB in our offense, but I've never felt good about Oregon "leading". Idk, we'll see.

  • I wonder if Urban Meyer is actually in to Dontre, or in his hopes of emulating Chip's offense, has decided that he's a good option?

Urban won two titles with offense. If anything Kelly is trying to be like Urban.

  • For some reason I'm just not too worried about Urbo. I truly feel we end up with him in the end. It's just the way it's going to be. Let the Buckaroos think they have a chance. It'll just pop their inflated egos when D-Dub commits to Oregon. You know I think I may troll the Buck board when we end up getting Wilson, Quicks and Greens commitment ;)

    Wrong.

Playing fast with a high tempo is not the same as running the same offense. You can run the same tempo and run a I-formation, spread, pro-style, etc

I'm not really sure how you can say this. I agree that the post above saying "But it might not be the right fit" is absolutely concerning. Clearly he's having doubts. He has to make the decision based off what will be best for him in the long run. I'm sure many would agree when I say that he is the prototypical Oregon back, but something tells me Urban Meyer could convince him otherwise.

  • I still think Dontre will be a Duck......Watch his film, it's the perfect offense for him...Oregon can get him into space like no other...He can catch like DAT and can hit the creases. Oregon has a load of texas talent on their squad. Not to mention, Big 10 ball is much different....so is the freezing snowy weather come late season.

Regardless, I wish the best for Dontre. Regardless, Oregon will land another VERY good back to go along with the nations top back in Tyner.

I think he ends up with Texas cause Brown will ease his concern about not touching the ball and distance from home will keep him from OSU and Oregon in the end

I think he leaves texas...texas is loaded at back every yr....every yr there are at least two or three top running backs in the world from this state alone. In my opinion, he'd fit in better with oregon or osu.

  • ya urban is so successful at putting RBs in the NFL. Dontre might want to do his research before buying the bullshit that urban is selling him.

Can you read? I'll quote the title for you, "Ohio States offense modeled after Oregon". Not Ohio State's tempo, Ohio States OFFENSE. The man hasn't even coached a game for you and you're accusing our coach of stealing his model? Gtfo.

    ducklefty

  • Not that its a bad thing, we have one of the most prolific offenses in the nation, why wouldn't you want to run it? Braxton Miller is a perfect fit as well.

    ducklefty

  • If Dontre chooses Ohio St, I will not root for him...everything he wants is at Oregon including DAT to learn the ropes from for at least a yr! Plus the guy loves track! He will be known as a sellout to me if he goes to Columbus...but Oregon fans, with or without Tre, Oregon is still loaded with playmakers and a top 5 program for years to come...WTD!

Why does Ohio State or Meyer have to steal anything from Oregon? I mean we are Ohio State for crying out loud. We solved your offense when we took home the Rose Bowl trophy.

  • The "it might not be the best fit line" isnt as concerning to me because it just means he hasnt visited ohio state yet and he doesnt know how ohio state feels yet, he just feels that he needs to gather all the information he can before making his decision which is good for him because this is a very big decision in a young man's life

Ice cream in hell sounds delicious! If I go to hell I'm not sure there's anything I'd want more.

Urban sold me without even knowing - proof of his genius, haha!

The Buckeyes are changing their tempo and offense to match Oregon's... Meyer said so. So who's copying who?

I say it confidently. Oregon has been DW top school for awhile. He's just exploring his options, but the relationship he's built with Coach Cam, his visit, LMJ, our system matching his style to a tee all translate to him being a Duck. He hasn't even visited OSU yet and when he does he'll realize how much of a shithole Ohio is. Urban's dirty. Guarantee he's playing the sanction card. I can't think of one back Urbans put into the pros that's been successful. Or not recently. UO have put several RB's into the nfl and it's been done in the past decade. Dontre will come around. I'm sure of it.

Yes you beat us in the Rose bowl. We beat Wisco in thr rose bowl last year who beat you. We are the defending Rose bowl Champs, not Ohio State. We'll see how it works out. If you win your conference and make it to the RB again and end up playing us(even though we'll be in the natty after destroying SC) you will see the outcome. Most likely it will be Michigan though, not your Bucks.
