  • Do you agree with 247's ranking of Jake Pisarcik?

If so would this be considered, a recruiting error for a top 10 team?

Has this year just seemed more a "huh really?" aspect to Oregon's recruiting tactics. From who they stopped recruiting to who they've secured commits from? From your perspective in following Oregon recruiting for the last several years of course.

  • Any news on when mattingly will announce?

  • Amid the new info that came out about Oregon's dealings with the NCAA, do you still see the Ducks taking the same number of commitments (20-21 if I recall correctly)? Or are you thinking that we are reducing that number?

    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

  • With us taking walker and this new olineman, was this due to our staff not feeling good about other linebackers/olineman, or because the staff wanted these kids over the higher ranked/more skilled kids? What's mquays status after his visit to usc? Would autzen be a cool name for a dog?

Ya know I trust JC Shurburtt and his evaluation of Pisarcik. Personally I also didn't see anything that made me go "wow"... but that said I'm also smart enough to know I'm not going to argue with Greatwood and something he may have seen he likes.

I will safely assume he sees a project but someone he can turn into an Oregon lineman. I've also seen in most instances centers are pretty difficult to accurately project.

I'm actually going to do a nice little op-ed type piece tomorrow I hope that addresses this exact question. Hope you can give me a day delay.

Personally I'd like to put a spin on it and make this positive. Obviously I'm sure they would prefer some of the earlier targets but both seem to be a reasonable back up option. Especially Pisarcik.

Hard to say with McQuay. Sounds like USC is right there but I think Oregon has stayed up in his upper list.

Ask OregonDuck90 about naming your dog Autzen.

I wear one for that reason. It's stylish. Just ask my friends.

  • Are we recruiting any interior D-linemen? With Etuale committed to Hawaii and Bostwick a long shot are there any known Pisarcik-like long shots in play?

    johnch

  • Why don't recruits want to go to play for a winner above all else? I remember back when I started playing EA Sports' NCAA Football game in like 2003-04 there were these selling points you could try to pitch a recruit on:

    Program Prestige
    Location
    Playing Time
    Coaching Style

Other than Location, if you humor me and assume these are 4 of the top criteria for picking a school, why is Oregon not getting more 4 and 5 stars every year? Continues to be a mystery to me, and I think the REASON for commitments (not just who they are and where they're going) is one of the least talked about/understood elements of recruiting.

I mean, I'd be foolish if I didn't believe that Oregon was but also they've never had a heavy emphasis at the position since day 1 of 2013 recruiting. I mean Pagano and Vanderdoes are offers you have to make. Etuale could still end up at Oregon IMO, I think Oregon knows they could get him if they want/need to.

Surely someone could blindside all of us, but it wouldn't surprise me if Oregon doesn't put an emphasis at this position in the next 6 weeks.

I agree with reason. But you know these are 17 year old kids talking to Lane Kiffin, Nick Saban, Mack Brown, Chip Kelly and every great coach out there. More than anything I think it's become where a kid feels comfortable more than anything. They just know it when they are there.

Eugene isn't for everyone. And it doesn't do Oregon a bit of good to bring in a kid and see him transfer in 2 years.

Is that a 'location' answer? Yeah kind of, but it's what I think applies here.

I think Pisarick's ranking is solid. He doesn't come from a state known to produce a lot of elite players and a telling sign is that some of the local D1 schools hadn't pulled the trigger. Thing is though is that Oregon offensive line coach Steve Greatwood likes a certain skillset and that sometimes doesn't translate well to other programs. Pisarick has a low center of gravity and is a guy who grew into his body late. Certainly will need some polishing but given Greatwood's track record with guys who flew under the radar this is one IMO you have to trust the staff.

Keep in mind offensive linemen are the hardest players to project. Oregon's signed a lot of high profile offensive linemen who looked like studs when they came in and could never develop past a practice player. On the flip side Oregon has signed a good amount of guys like Pisarick who've come into the program and left as multi-year starter.
