Former 5-Star Chris Martin

  • I was wondering if anyone on the board (Justin?) had any info on former 5-star Chris Martin. He signed with Cal in 2010 and then transferred to Florida. He then left Florida to go the JC route and my understanding is that he should be a recruitable athlete again this year. All I could find on my own was some unsubstantiated message board post that he'd been booted from his JC.

Will he make it back to D-1A? Could he end up somewhere in Pac-12, or even be a possible Oregon target?

Note: He went to the same HS as Evan Baylis.

  • I think his problem is he's a pre madona and has thought way to much of himself. Doubt any school like UO, SC will give him a 3rd chance. Maybe a fringe school like a Iowa St or someone like that hopping he can straiten up.

  • This starts at the high school level, when kids flounder back and forth on commitments, it often times leads to problems in college. This kid never wears an Oregon uni IMO.

Might re-surface at some FCS school or something, who knows.

  • Id love to have him. This armstead recruitment is killing me, just the thought of a dominant d lineman at Oregon has me excited.

  • I don't know that he's ever been dominant at D1 though. Just because he's ranked highly in HS doesn't mean anything, so far he hasn't even seen the field much as a D1 player, so he left for a JC. Who would you rather have a kid like this who has talent but doesn't work hard, or a kid like Brandon Bair who worked his tail off everyday of his life and by the time he left was an all conference player who also works hard in the community and owned a car dealership while going to school?

Just look at Wisconsin's olineman, all of them where 2 and 3* recruits yet they are arguably the best oline in the country. Personally I'll take a entire team of hard workers.

  • Chris Martin = Jabari Brown. Lots of talent, but when a kid goes to 3, 4,5 HS, you are likely going to see issues down the road

  • The mods said that Oregon is going to be very careful with juco transfers. All the ducks in a row and then some. Can't see a problem case getting in now chip is there. Not worth the effort and time spent. A bad apple stays a bad apple despite the 1 in a billion Hollywood stories we see in the movies.

USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.

  • Kid's a head case. I don't care how talented he is. I don't want him on our team.

  • I like the Jabari Brown comparison. Bryce Brown is another in the same mold. Remember when he was pre-season All-Big 12?

    Lol, that worked out well.

    Zactly.

Got a good thing going, no need to bring in unnecessary potential cancers to the locker room.

From what I remember the guy has some personal issues, which would tear a locker room up. I remember reading something about his mother saying about finding a school that would keep him away from his old crowd, or something like that.

If you knew the whole story I do not believe you would. Justin is correct, he will never wear a Oregon uniform.
