Saw that Cal now is indeed the frontrunner for Armstead. Blah.
Cal can pull in every 5-star at every position and they'll still only win 7 games.
"Release Me Cuhhhhhhhh"
I just think Cal, in recent history, has yet to prove anything ON THE FIELD. Recruiting stars mean jack if it doesn't equal success on the field. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Cal is going to be awful forever, but they're not going to turn around and be Oregon's biggest divisional competition just like that.
Washington is already the better team and is at least one season ahead of them in terms of solidly rebuilding their program. I also think, even though they lose Luck, that Stanford can stay competitive in the following years.
I just don't foresee a scenario in which Cal/Oregon play each other and the winner takes the high road the North Championship. They're too inconsistent. Seriously, I hope all these boffo recruits enjoy finishing in fifth place for the next three-four years.
Why does Cal under perform year after year? it's more than Tedford, who is a good coach. It certainly isn't the players. It isn't just the lack of a great QB.
I'm thinking it's the whole Bay Area/Berkeley culture. It's a great place to go to school. It's a great place to visit. It will never be a place which takes college football seriously. Jim Harbaugh would have been a fish out of water in Berkeley.
Let Cal sign the 5*'s. Better Cal than USC, WA or UCLA. Our real rival in the PAC 12 North will be WA over the next decade.
USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.
