  • Seriously this is getting really old -

the coaching staff is just being lazy right now - I don't get it

  • At this point I don't even know if I am disappointed. I definitely am not surprised. I did not expect anything other than this when I saw the article posted. Hopefully the UO coaches are showing the love somewhere else and we are still able to close well.

We are still in the mix for several players that can push our class to the level that we expect. But it seems like the bad news is just not stopping this recruiting season.

  • Shocking. I don't think I've ever heard a recruit say "they haven't been showing me the love" before. Just shocking! confused

  • When it rains it pours.....this is by far the weirdest Oregon recruiting year I've ever seen. Jack was also my top remaining target in a position of dire need.

I agree with you. It's been extremely strange and incredibly difficult for me to track. But I'll continue to try. LOL

We do have 3 lb's signed already so this is not the end of the world. However, it did seem like the staff was making Jack a priority and then all of a sudden... we hear this. I think the sudden switches away from psa's that it seemed like we really wanted is what is confusing to me the most this year.

And I don't get your comment. We were never really in it for Jack. He entertained the idea of maybe, sorta, possibly checking us out.

The staff is anything but lazy. We go 12-1 for the last three seasons that's hardly lazy.

There have been two large dead periods recently which means coaches cannot contact recruits. I understand the frustration but this is on Jack not our staff.

USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.

There are 3 LB commits but they need a MIKE dude. Different positions.

  • Jack is originally from the south...and as we all know, Oregon doesn't recruit the way we would prefer them to do.

Sorry guys..but lets stay positive. We have Thomas Tyner! We'll be fine lol

  • I guess it was too much to ask to get Jack...WOW this is highly depressin...

Honestly I get this feeling that coaches would be more than willing to keep this class really small and carry the scholarships over to next year. Still, the thought that we've gone to four consecutive BCS bowls and are having real problems filling a small class blows me away.

  • I swear our staff thinks recruiting is Opposite Day and if they ignore everyone, they'll get kids to sign.

This is really, really getting old.

  • At this point why not offer Johnny Ragin? What do we have to lose at this point?

The weird thing is that this class didn't have to be disappointing. If our staff showed some more heavy effort towards some of these kids, they'd have a great shot at landing them.

But for some reason it almost feels like the staff wants this class to be disappointing, like intentionally. I'm 99% sure that's not the case but it sure feels like it.

Tyner at LB! Heard it here first...

  • I wonder if we had one full time recruiting director in place, if, that would change the direction. Meaning this person could due all the diligence on these kids while they are juniors so that when the kids are ready to do OV's we have them already identified. The coaching staff could then go forward in developing a relationship with kids who are already "qualified" by Oregon standards.

  • I had a great feeling about Jack knowing that he was going to be visiting so close to NSD. Huge bummer here. I really hope the coaches get their acts together for the 2014 class because in general, after all this program has been through in the past couple years, this cycle is a disappointment. I'm not saying we don't have great players, but with our coaching staff, recent track record, facilities, and the Nike connection we should be pulling top recruits from all over the west coast and especially the Northwest.

  • Maybe the staff feels more confident about Cunningham than the news I read yesterday made it appear? Is it possible they like him better and think they have a great shot at landing him?

  • There are a lot of spoiled fans these days. Oregon imo will never have s top 10 recruiting class. I get it that oregon had had a lot of success lately, but its still Eugene Oregon.

We dont have the luxury of picking kids out of our back yards. At least they've been able to keep the top talent here in oregon the last couple cycles.
Gotta remember that we are asking kids to leave out of state away from all their friends and family.

I love this class and im sure they will close just fine with some nice suprises. Just be patient my fellow ducks.

  • While I have no inside knowledge, any kid that says he is "not feeling the love from the staff" is probably either not a good fit with our team or the staff has simply decided to not pursue him. Don't believe for a moment that it was due to a lack of effort by the coaches.
