This^^^^^^Plus, we do not have alot of postions of need this coming year and alot of high caliber players want to walk in and play right away. Also, based on our coaching staffs past results........We will be just fine!! Lots of arm chair coaches on this board. RELAX my brothers.

It's not about next year. It's about 2-3 years down the line. Why is that so hard to understand?

  • We're getting run on this year in recruiting plain and simple. The staff is getting outworked and they have been HORRIBLY disjointed. I am one of the staunchest defenders, but there is no master plan or higher thinking that includes being disorganized or inconsistent.

  • The simple statement about not feeling the love reeks of an ego too big for the Oregon program. You guys keep not realizing that most of the recruits for the Top 10 classes have grown up with that particular school their dream school. All they need is interest and an offer

    duckdeb

  • And it's not just a matter of the staff cooling on or not contacting recruits. They're simply just losing lots and lots of battles with players they have shown interest in.

So you add those two together and you're likely not going to end up with a lot of positives.

I've said that about Falah, yet Chip sure wants him.

TYRECE GAINES, BRYSON LITTLEJOHN, CLIFF HARRIS (MORE THAN A YEAR), DIANTE JACKSON, LACHE SEASTRUNK, DONTAE WILLIAMS, CURTIS WHITE (although his was injuries) DEVON BLACKMON, TACOI SUMLER, RAHSAAN VAUGHN, ANTHONY WALLACE, JAMERE HOLLAND, JUSTIN THOMPSON, MYLES WADE, SIMI FILI… THESE BLUE CHIPS ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF A PROGRAM!!!

How typical. Straight to denigrating the PSA. You guys know that the JC QB we're recruiting left his previous school after a DUI conviction, right? NOBODY can EVER say anything LEGIT about why we cool on these athletes. Colt Lyerla was KICKED OUT of his UCLA visit.

How typical? So what's your point?

As noted in a previous post of mine, our coaches appear to be fully aware of kid's backgrounds and whether they have what it takes to excel or not, given their background, on and off the field. Many factors go into that evaluation.

So the JC QB has a DUI, what has he done since? Colt, same thing, what has he done since? And I'm not talking about just on the field. Apparently, the coaches are satisfied with their background checks. And since we can't hear from the coaches, we don't know if the coaches backed off or not.

I did not denigrate the PSA, I do not know him. I merely provided my opinion that his actions are a likely precursor to his future, and that future looks like a lot of me, me, me.

Chip didn't recruit Thompson, Fili, or Wade, and yeah, I don't think White counts.

Also it wasn't like Littlejohn was bad or anything. Wasn't a beast but he played a lot.

So if Chip DID recruit those guys and chose to pass on them based on his "standard" then would he still be lazy? These are Blue Chips that are the be all end all.

Littlejohn wasnt bad, but would you say that he ended up panning out like a true "Blue Chip" should?

No, but he didn't get kicked out or transfer or anything and his senior year he played a ton in the two-deep. Plus he was JC and they're always hit or miss.

And the first question is hypothetical. Chip wasn't the coach for those guys so no need to throw them in as well is all I'm saying.

  • I'm really amazed at the amount of frustration some of you are having. I remember when getting a 3-star guy was something to get excited about! I truly beleive that U of O does the most with the talent they get. Maybe, the staff (who are aware of ALL the details)saw something they didn't like. Either way, the players Oregon recruits are specific to their system and they've been very good about selecting quality kids with plenty of talent. They get the benefit of doubt from me, that's for sure! GO DUCKS!!

Rahsaan didnt get kicked out or transfer either. Also JC. Bryson played a ton on the two-deep but wouldnt you expect more out of a blue chip? They are hit and miss, but so is ALL of recruiting.

The first question is hypothetical, however I throw them in because they are still highly rated recruits who didnt pan out, for whatever reason, mental, work ethic, grades, attitude, injuries. Can any of us who arent actually "courting" these kids say we have any info on the above with the kids that current regime is passing on?

  • 4 straight BCS Bowls.

Our staff takes more time than most to make sure they fit the character profile, some players just do not fit our system, community, or what our school offers. That is just the facts.

We are now going against the very best programs for the best players available. I think we might lose a few of those battles.

Do some of you realize how out of touch with reality you sound?

When we start losing or I start hearing about team chemistry issues, then i will worry. Until then, go coaches go, you know exactly what you are doing and you are doing it great!!!!

If we go back to having 3-4 losses because the kids we picked up just aren't the most talented bunch to run Chip's schemes, you might remember this post.

We've done a great job at cultivating underrated talent. However that's far from the norm. Alabama recruits blue chip after blue chip and they've won 3 titles in 4 years. USC under Carroll did the same thing, the reason why they can't do it now is because Kiffin is horrible. Chip is such a great coach that he can make some of these big star talents do big things for our program. But we've got to get them here first. You can't tell me you think Vanderdoes wouldn't bulldoze in our system, or Marqise Lee wouldn't have killed it for us, or Kyle Murphy wouldn't have held down our line.

At some point, our staff needs to win more of these battles, because with the California schools (apart from Cal) all getting better, it's only going to get tougher.

And do you want to go 8 straight? If so, we need to recruit blue chip talent. Otherwise we'll be back to competing at Oregon State's level, and we are so far beyond that. The facilities, all the nike money and involvement with the billboards and uniforms, the establishment of a national brand, Oregon didn't come this far to stop because old timers remember the toilet bowl in 1983 and can die happy now that we've lost a national championship game.

  • You know Chip Kelly flirting with the NFL isn't helping us any I really wanted Chip to leave once I heard LM III committed to USC, Also telling 5*Recruits "will win with or without ya" now to a recruit that's cocky and he won't sign with that attitude, Chip we love ya for what you have done for us but we are so much better then this please do better next year!

Four straight BCS bowls does not mean the coaching staff is incapable of a less-than-stellar recruiting year nor does it mean that if we do not continue to fill up the plate with top talent that we will continue to go to BCS Bowls. We have lost more than a few battles -- we are at a net ZERO since September (Robinson twins) for high-profile commitments (plus Mattingly, down Redmond). For whatever the reason, the message delivered by the coaching staff is not resonating with the kids and they are choosing to go elsewhere. Still three weeks left, but we are running out of both time and targets. Not denigrating the staff....is just a fact.

Now that's just absolutely silly. Chip is greater than any 5* recruit on the planet. He's worth about 50 McQuays.

All I have to say is that the prediction of us finishing strong in recruiting now that he is staying after all sure hasn't proven true.

  • YOu guys are all acting like Jack was a verbal to Oregon. He is a UCLA commit... Like I said, how many of you grew up thinking my dream is to play for Oregon? Most the kids in Texas think nothing except UT from when they are in diapers; Alabama kids are the same. The schools with the dominating histories have a huge class just chomping at the bits to get in. We simply do not have that tradition yet AND our style is different than a lot of schools. Oregon is too cold for a lot of those kids and Southern California has a draw in location. Oh yea, from what I have always heard, the Oregon staff is not willing to lie to a guy to get them to commit. But then look at MM who dreamed of playing QB at USC - where is he playing now?????

When it rains it pours.....this is by far the weirdest Oregon recruiting year I've ever seen. Jack was also my top remaining target in a position of dire need.

This is very strange. It does make you wonder how Oregon sees their linebacker position right now. Are they content with only bringing in three players at that position? Will they go "all in" on Zach Cunningham? Is there a mystery LB recruit that is ready to emerge? It's very difficult to say. I think a lot of people are wondering (myself included), "What is the bigger plan?" We shall see...
