Kenjon Barner Leaving For NFL??

  • LMJistheMan:

Seriously, all my posts are made up?? Have you even read the article, or been a Duck fan long?? Starting off, KB even said in the interview which is on registerguard.com that he will be done with his degree in 1 term. He stated that because he had said he made a promise to his mom to graduate before leaving Oregon. Second, LMJ is his best friend, and if he leaves, KB would more than likely be more apt to leave than stay because of that decision. Third, it was reported by registerguard that KB got a good review from the NFL for his draft status. Fourth, KB suffered a terrible concussion and hit last year that his parents, him, and fans thought could possibly end his career. Fortunately, he came back and played great this season. However, an example of someone who came back from a big hit, but suffered another and now won't be able to play football again is Chris Owosu at Stanford. And finally, he wouldn't go 1-3rd round most likely, but going 4-5th round and making around 300,000 dollars is nothing to turn your nose up to. That's still a lot of money. As for the rumors circulating, some friends of his were saying that he was leaning more towards the NFL rather than coming back. I didn't list it as fact, merely rumor. I didn't say he was going to leave, but right now, the possibility of him leaving seems much greater than what people earlier thought. I personally would put it at 50/50. If you want to disagree, fine, but seriously, do some research and then post.

  • Could Barner be more interested in the NFL because of DeAnthony Thomas' abilities? It only seems logical that Thomas will see an increase in touches without James. And every Duck, USC, and pac12 fan knows Thomas is going to only get better.

    Thoughts?

Doesn't really make sense that Barner would leave because James did. Like they're going to see each other next year?

Also, in college it's not uncommon for people to get attention by claiming friendship with people and claiming they have inside information.

I'm thinking that it's unlikely that Barner has received his draft eval yet considering the process. So if the rumor start with he got his draft evaluation back then I would take the rest of the information with a grain of salt for the time being.

The versatility of Kelly's offense allows both players a huge amount of playing time so that wouldn't be a factor. KB would feature as the handoff RB while DaT plays in the slot or vice versa. The third part of the equation would be Carson as a power back. Kelly uses three RB's regularly in a game.

  • I have posted this on the other Barner thread. If he got a middle round grade, that is probably enough to make him go. The reasoning is that if he gets a 4-5th round grade, he would have to risk another year to hopefully move 1-2 rounds up. ( I don't see him better than a 5th by the way.) But, if he were to get injured, and lets say early, he may not even be drafted.

I do think both he and LMJ will see their stock rise after the combine.

  • It makes absolutely no sense for Barner to leave because LMJ is. They likely aren't going to end up on the same team.

Barner has everything to gain by returning and being the feature back for a year. He could go from a minimum contract to a multi-million one. I'm sure he knows that. And he could stand to develop his skills more next year as well. Which is why I think any talk of him leaving is bogus.

The only part of your post that didn't sit well with me was saying that you heard around campus that KB was leaving. I find that difficult to believe, and never said that it didn't make any sense. Sorry, you just joined and haven't built any credibility capital with me. You might be very trustworthy, but I'm not being out of line to choose to ignore that piece of your post.

As for the likelihood of Barner leaving, I even said it was possible..

  • If Barner were to leave, the only reason I could think why that would make sense, is if James was returning. Assuming James is leaving, I don't know why Barner thinks it's a good idea to jump ship when he could be the primary back in a dominant run offense, and greatly improve his draft stock.

The pay scale between 1st/2nd round is a lot higher than 4th/5th round.

    Just saying.

So according to the Registerguard, Kenjon Barner received his review from the NFL and it was quite favorable. Rumor mill around the university is that he's already told his family and some close friends that he is leaving, even though he said in the interview that he still has to talk to his family about it. Word is, it's a done deal, and he just didn't want people freaking out about him leaving right now, before the game. As far as his promise to graduate, he already said there is no problem with him declaring to the NFL, because he only has 1 term left to finish. So his promise to his mom will still be upheld. He actually mentioned that in the interview, almost preparing people who have questions to let them know that he's still graduating. So, word around campus is that he's leaving, and the way he was talking in the interview, it almost sounded like he's got his ducks (pun completely intended) to graduate and move on to the NFL. Thoughts?? Opinions?? I know it's still speculation, but the way things are sounding, it looks like we lose Barner and LMJ to the draft this year.

Ugh.. You sound like Aaron Fentress right now.. which makes me want to ignore you.. hearsay hearsay hearsayyyyy

  • A week ago I would have been really surprised if LMJ stayed. After LMJ's input, I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow in surprise.

How counter-intuitive if LMJ stays and Barner the Burner goes? Both are great backs, and I'd love to keep them both. If they both stayed, I don't think it would creat a logjam at all. Two senior running backs along with two sophomores (Carson and DAT) and a freshman (Byron M) plus Forde (not sure what grade he is in).

If both stay, we're looking pretty. If one goes, then we're looking pretty, but really hoping against injuries. If both go, then I think Number 1 becomes a back.
