  • My best source indicates the case against Jefferson and his teammates is not very solid and we could see some resolve today perhaps. Just keep an eye out, but at this point it appears Oregon will move forward and face a Jefferson-led LSU team.

  • Yet charges were filed against them yesterday.

edit: chargers were filed yesterday, not today.

"If the players never come in and talk to us, we will continue our investigation without talking to them. If the evidence support the allegations, warrants will be issued for their arrests and we'll arrest them whether they come to speak to us or not."

  • Ya because if one of my football players was kicking some dude in the face while he was just beaten down by a bunch of dudes, I'd let him be my quarterback too. What a joke.

Let's let the facts come out before we all run screaming down that path. The police have barely started their investigation. The fact that there are multiple witnesses implicating the 4 is bad news, to be sure. But innocent until proven guilty is not just some cliche, it is one of the founding principles of our nation.

  • Police are meeting with the four players today. Others (LSU mods) are now reporting what I have alluded to earlier this morning. The latest reports are saying the team was not as involved as is being made out by the media.

  • They are meeting now. Perhaps the mods are looking through purple and gold glasses. There was obviously some reason to believe there was involvement otherwise brpd would not have interest in speaking to them.

Jefferson, three others meet with Baton Rouge Police

LSU starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson and three of his teammates have decided to meet with police at an undisclosed time and location Tuesday.

  • Justin, on a side note I'm curious about the lawyer aspect of this situation. Has he been paid for respresentation or is he working pro-bono? Anyone has a right to pro-bono work, but it is my impression that this lawyer has done quite a bit of work for LSU players in the past. If he has a disproportionate amount of pro-bono work for LSU athletes isn't that an extra benefit? I'm not looking to stir up reasons to have these guys in trouble, I'm just curious and a little confused. Anything that is deemed "special treatment" due to being an athlete is an extra benefit right? Is there a responsibility of the NCAA to determine the motives of this lawyer and check his track record in regards to how he seems to represent so many LSU athletes?

Oregon St and Saint Riley didn't kick anyone off the team when his players kicked the crap out of the solider in Salem, because they didn't like the fact a white guy was married to a black women. So why would a SEC team do anything different.

Wow. Overreact much? The FACT of the matter is that none of us know what happened. It's sad that after all we have been through as Duck fans the last 2.5 years that so many of us are willing to throw the book at a group of young men. You are insane if you think anyone was "paid off" especially in such a high profile situation.

We have a justice system and they will get to the bottom of it, until then why don't we stop acting like we know what happened, it's embarrassing.

  • Apparently there is video of the fight. I'm assuming surveillance video from the bar or adjacent video. I'm sure if it were cell phone video it would already be on YouTube.

I have several years experience analyzing surveillance video including providing video evidence to assist in police investigations.

Generally (obviously I have not seen this specific video) surveillance video is not quality enough to say definitively who did what. It usually assists in police investigations when they already have a suspect in mind and are looking for confirmation. Or it could be used in a case like this to differentiate between the two sides of the story. For example, say you are not able to see exactly who did what, who was punching or kicking and who wasn't. Say suspect "A" makes a statement that as soon as it started going down he left. The video in most cases will be enough to show whether or not he is telling the truth about that part of it.

  • All indications from what I'm reading says that he'll sit. Unless your sources have sources within the police department or directly involved with the team. There was even an indication that Lee and Mett have been taking all the snaps as well.

Lawyers are available for general student body at most major universities. This is not a special treatment due to being an athlete, but rather a benefit of attending the university.

LSU's compliance department disagrees. They have made the lawyer bill the players however, the terms of payment have not been decided.

  • Some new news has come in. I guess the police got a search warrant and walked out with some bags of evidence from Jefferson's home.

Police say there are no plans to search any other homes

  • Shoes...They are checking to see if the shoe print matches the marks on a shirt and the guys back. I would also imagine that they may have looked for the clothing he wore that evening to find blood. Hard to bust some guys' faces and not get a little blood on your shirt. His story I believe is that he left right away. That can quickly be dispelled should anything be found on his clothing. If Jefferson did do it, he's gotta be sweating this and he will be toast. Also, for a # of reasons, the police must have quite a preponderance of evidence or "reasons" to issue a warrant, search his home and take property from him. My guess is he was named by a # of witnesses as the person who made the blow which caused the broken vertebrae. Also heard a Times Picayune reporter quoted as he would be shocked if JJ wasn't suspended and started against Oregon. Also, Mettenberger would not be the starter, but J Lee. All conjecture, but more and more seems to rising to the surface and very little looks good for JJ.

  • I just love the fact that we have to have video surveillance to prove jj or other players did this. Let me put it this way if DT and a few other ducks were kicking my ass I'm pretty sure I could pick them out of a lineup. "Yes officer, the starting quarterback was the person kicking me in the head."

  • Very true...reports say there were several witnesses...these kids are like rock stars...you would know who they were especially "if" you saw one of them kicking someone in the head...time will tell I guess...doesn't sound good at all...history of sec tells us they won't miss the Oregon game but the police will wrap up their investigation about 10:00 pst time on sat 9/3 and Miles will announce team members involved in the "fight" will miss a serious in the following weeks game against Colorado school of the blind...just saying...
