Also, if Faith was turned away, why is Buckner visiting? Is Buckner the commit? Isn't he a DE? Aren't we full at that spot? Full enough that we would turn away a DT with 4*'s.

I don't understand this at all.

As I see it, we were recruiting Faith as a Nose Tackle (think big Wade and Ricky), several of our DEs are essentially 5 techniques (Terrell Turner's position), several will be drop/rush ends (Brandon Hanna/Dion Jordan position), Cottrell's moving to inside LB, and Daniel is more of an athlete that could potentially swing to TE to provide flexibility...

Each of these positions is being recruited for differently with different PSAs, so when Faith said "they're full at DL", my take is what he (we?) meant was that we were full at the position we were recruiting him for (DT/NT)

Be nice if justin would just say he's toying with us. Doesn't seem to hard to do.

In the end, I just hope we are all excited about having a great class with some beef on the lines.

While you're certainly entitled to your opinion, I just don't understand how you came to it.

-Twice now Justin has responded in the other thread by acknowledging "it" (the rumored silent, or - at worst - Faith's comment about us being full) wasn't about Armstead or Buckner. Justin isn't referring to nothing.

-We're still in need of a young guy in the middle. Balducci committed long enough ago that there's no way he plays a factor here, and we very clearly continued to recruit Ekakatie after his commitment. Teams don't recruit a guy with his talent (at a position of need no less), on the other side of the country for a whole year, just to lie to him right before he makes his decision.

-Seems we had room for him when he visited, now we don't, and in the interim, have had no one commit that remotely could be considered a candidate for DT. The easiest conclusion, to me, is that someone took that spot.

Without going back and looking at specific comments, I believe that previously Justin pretty much shot down all comments about a silent commit. However, in the past few days or so this seems to have changed. And he has not done anything to shoot down general speculation and in fact seems to be refuting speculation on specific recruits (AA for example), but not on some others. This is while making comments like, "I'm sorry but in due time I can post what I'd like to post." Sooo...either he is just having screwing with us, or there is more to the story.

Does anyone actually know anything? Wild speculation is great, but I would like to know what are the top "position" priorities and when we think we'll hear something.

JHop... can you PLEASE break down some of the moving pieces.

I responded to this topic in the warp speed marathon thread.

1. McCarthy, Buckner & Armstead are not silents. Not just because Justin said they weren't, it's just common knowledge.
2. Just because Faith said what he did doesn't mean we have someone committed. Coaches do tell recruits stuff like that. It could mean several different things
3. Yes, Justin has dropped some hints, but they are fuzzy enough where jumping to any hard & fast conclusions is only warranted for those deciphering what they want to.
4. Most feel CK & his staff really don't deal in "silents" like MB would occasionally do. Doesn't mean there absolutely couldn't be one, but very unlikely.
5. My bet, if indeed there is a DL out there, is it's either a player who's currently committed elsewhere and he wants his interest in Oregon kept quiet or it's a lesser known player that our coaches like a lot and he's let them known his interest is very high.

Discussing silent commits is like inhaling before lighting up...just doesn't make sense.
When commits become audible I'll be happy to sober up and discuss.

Ok, im sure Justin is laughing his balls off at all of our mystery defensive player wondering..... BUT give the laughs a break and say yes if there is a silent or no there isn't. Thanks man, appreciate it
