NCAA affecting class size?

DuckTerritory discusses the potential of Oregon taking a smaller class with a looming NCAA investigation and how that may, or may not be in the cards for the Ducks.

  • We'll be fine. I truely believe that.
The reality is we won't score like we've done the last couple of years and that's ok. We will need a good class next year in my opinion if we want to stay up with the elite.
    Go Ducks.

  • adam gorney of rivals states , With Oregon, it's been an up-and-down approach to recruiting, and it's been hard to wrap your head around. At times they go hard after a prospect and push and push and then suddenly they stop or back off. And at other times they push on guys, back off and then push again.

"I'm not really sure what the strategy is there because Oregon has facilities, they have the recent winning tradition and they have those uniforms every kid loves, so they could be killing it right now on the West Coast and elsewhere, but they just aren't. There has to be something behind that."

Do you agree with this assessment?
    Thanks

I don't know, I guess it's not totally inaccurate but not totally accurate.

I think Oregon backed off Max Redfield and Gareon Conley and were up front about doing so. I think they did miss on a few guys and are hitting up some back ups pretty hard. But that happens a little with Oregon each year.

One thing is abundantly clear, Oregon will NEVER chase any recruit unless they think the interest is sincere. They just won't ever recruit like a UCLA or USC or Alabama... meaning countless phone calls, letters and constant attention. Oregon let's you know they are interested and they stay with you if you they feel like you are interested as well.

But if you are looking for 'attention' you won't find it from the Oregon coaches.

  • Oregon has a very small class this year and with the sanctions overhead it makes it difficult to recruit. In a sense it makes sense if Oregon's being so picky and only recruiting guys that go above and beyond the call of wanting to be a Duck. Oregon will have 14-18 seniors on scholarship next year plus one or two guys that would leave the program, plus remember Oregon typically likes to sit at 82 or so scholarships, thus allowing Oregon to have a full 25 or so scholarships available for 2014. That year is the year I am curious to see playout. Does Oregon stay stingy like they have or will they loosen up?

I agree totally and sad to say I think a lot of people right now have blinder's on, cause I personally thought Oregon wasn't gonna get that much if at all any penalty's, and since the NCAA isn't budging I don't think that Bode's well for our Duck Nation at all, I certainly don't think any of this fit's the Crime, I mean to me this doesn't compare to what SC did with Bush at all, and all the recruit;s that this is even about are gone anyway's, So why does the NCAA have such a Hard On for all this, cause A lot of other Team's used that Snake, and really is the guy all that reliable and can his word really be of any value, Willlie Boy that is who I'm talking about, but it doesn't look good if now they have to go before the Committee, and you think the University are going to tell any of these recruit's truthfully what's going on, HELL NO, because this recruiting class is part of the bright future hopefully, and you know for sure we'd have a better class, if there wasn't so much NEGATIVE recruiting being done against us, and to a point you know it's affecting this class in a Big way. Also remember Duck Fan's this isn't USC, and never will be when it come's to tradition, so I don't care what they say, Chip's flirtation with the NFL is making a difference and If anybody tell's you different, well that's BS at it's best. So yes I believe were all in for a WHOPPER, because the point is from the NCAA's standpoint is this, You can't PAY for somebody's influence for a Player's signature, and that's what their saying Oregon did. So either way it's supposedly No different than paying a guy 650 thousand big one's to come play for your Team. So sasy what you wan't but it is what it is.

With the potential talent and interest on the table for '14 I really hope they losen up. Not saying go crazy and offer every 5* kid, but I do think they should do their evaluations earlier and see what kids have genuine interest and hit those kids up with early offers and try and build relatiinships earlier. Doing things earlier doesn't mean they still can't make proper evaluations. Just start a little sooner then later.

Yes Chip flirted with Tampa last year, but he said he hasn't spoken with any NFL teams this year. The media is blowing it up and they are the ones making it look like he's out the door. So far the only thing Chip has shown is that he chose Oregon over the nfl(last year).

Chip can't change the fact that he's a desired coach and he'll be connected to any nfl team on the coach hunt whether he has been speaking with them or not. According to Chip, he has not so what more do you want from him? It's a compliment he's talked about so much. What do you want him to do? You have this weird disliking for Chip and it's not validated. Give it a rest already.
