NCAA or NIT deep run

  • This is something I was talking with someone while we were watching the Cal game last night. I was thinking while we all want the Ducks to make the NCAAs but would it be really worth it if we made it to the play-in game per say and lose on a Tuesday instead of getting into the NIT and winning 3 or 4 games.

Yes the NCAA is better but it's all about getting more practices/games/TV time and playing into maybe the Semi-Finals of the NIT would solve all three and are a better possibility to me IMO.

If we win the rest of our games this season and win the conference tournament, I highly doubt that Oregon would be put in the "First Four". Those two games are meant for small conference teams that earn their conference's AQ bid by winning their conference tournament. While some of the smaller conference school are good enough to play with many other teams from larger conferences, the "First Four" is really meant to take the worst teams out of the tournament from the start.

Even if we don't win the conference tournament, say we finish the rest of the regular season undefeated and lose in the tournament final, I still think our resume would be good enough to get into the Big Dance without being in the "First Four".

  • The dance. But that is me as a fan speaking. I'm not sure how the team wants... oh wait, the dance.

  • NCAA. Always, and especially this year.

Our team is going to look very different next year losing Joseph, olu, sim, Jacob, and nared. Not much benefit to getting a couple extra games when we are going to need so manynnewcomers to contribute next year.

And you have to get to the tournament for recruiting. Nobody's creaming themselves over signing with a coach that's going to win you some games in the NIT.

On top of it all, it's going to be tough to make the tournament again next year. Unless we get some jc or transfer help that are as ready to play at this level as Joseph and olu we should take a step back next year. 3 years without an NCAA bid makes recruiting a tougher sell.

Reaching the tournament this year is very important, and I think we will if we win our next 3 games
