New details on the car loaned to Harris

  • The woman doesn't believe she broke any rules and the guys didn't have the car very long. Story was on KATU tonight.

  • Great news - I was very skeptical and nervous when I heard a rental car was involved - but this story sounds a pretty solid. In terms of the NCAA angle to this story, I think we'll be fine. The compliance people will conduct their interview and bring the finding (either way) to the NCAA and walk them through the details. They'll handle this the same way they handled the LMJ car issue.

  • well as it turns out she might have unknowingly broke a rule but this is on cliff more than it is on her

    aberoyce_dup

  • The best part of this to me is it was probably a one-time deal and the guys only had the car for a short time. It sounds like they paid her too much for it (cost her 220 and they paid 300). If Cliff sat for a game last fall for some of the earlier stuff, he'll probably sit for this. As for the NCAA violation, our Compliance Office has already contacted the Pac-10 and we may or may not get punished. But I doubt it's going to be a huge punishment.

  • I'll stick by my original prediction. 1st half of the LSU game seems about right.

The way it works is UofO will "self-report" the incident along with a suggested penalty. As long as our compliance people are competent (all signs point to Oregon having one of the best in the country) they should have the same opinion of the situation as the NCAA. The way I hopefully see it playing out will be very similar to the LMJ situation. We will get a formal release from the University indicating that this situation occurred and the NCAA looked into it and everything is fine. I'm sure the news will leak out in the next few days if Oregon self-reported with a penalty or not.

Oregon has been extremely fortunate that this happened the day after Lebron chocked and Tosu was announcing a new coach. This is not a national story by any means and the NCAA won't feel undue pressure to "over investigate" in order to placate an angry media. There is no mention of this on the front page of ESPN or sports center or even "the scroll" from what I've seen.

The story was on CFL today

    oooooooo

  • I think this is encouraging news, however, I still think with Cliff's past, he will not play against LSU which is deeply concerning considering the fact that LSU's WR depth chart is scary and deep!

Yeah, but their QB sucks...They could have Fitzgerald, C Johnson, R Moss and A Johnson but it doesn't really matter if their quarterback can't hit the broadside of a barn from 10 feet away! Also, as much as I love CH and his ballhawking skills, our DB depth is probably strongest position on our team top to bottom. Even stronger than RB IMHO. Alonso (playing or not) will probably be a bigger impact in the LSU game.

  • 97, I wouldn't say he sucks...he's just inconsistent but showed improvement towards the end of the season and in their bowl win against TAM!

The story was on CFL today

In the grand scheme of things that's still small potatoes. Did Colin or Rome talk about on the radio, No - Did the PTI or Around the Horn talk about it, no. Did sport center, no. Is it on the front page of ESPN.COM, NO. Even the average College Football fan isn't tuning into CFL on a daily basis.

As more details come out that indicate that this is a minor story (from a compliance perspective) the more the story goes away from a national perspective.

My point is if Oregon finds that there is no issue and presents the facts to the NCAA, the NCAA won't have some outside media pressure pushing them to look further.

I was only pointing out that it was on CFL, that is all. You have a valid point I was not negating that by stating it was on CFL. peace

  • Bad move by Cliff. I really hope we have him for the LSU game, more for his return abilities than cb. But, I'm not holding my breath. badidea

  • I want him for LSU, I also put a lot of weight in the fact that he broke a rule outside of football and will be fined $2k+.

Lets not forget he is going to be punished by the state both in time, money, and on his record.

Stupid yes, and he will be hit for it. Football related, not really.

    Pretty much my thoughts also.

Very positive article....per another schools compliance officer, Harris will be OK if the facts check out
