OT: What's your favorite beer right now?

Supplication was excellent. In fact, Russian River's sours are all great. I believe their brewmaster started as a wine maker so he has an edge up on other brewers in that department.

Ya Firestone Walker's brewmaster started off as a wine guy, but now knocks barrel-aged beers out of the park. Never heard a bad thing about them. Of course you guys living in Oregon and Cali are so much closer to it and I just have to imagine about it.

I thought Firestone Walker is from back east? I've only tried their IPA, which was respectable, but I've read about some of their more specialty beers that rate highly.

Their in Paso Robles, California. I'm sure their good friends with the guys at Russian River.

JHop, If you're downtown you need to go to Bailey's Taproom. You can thank me later.

I can guarantee I'm there at least once on my trip. LOL

I'm staying in Beaverton but I'll have my own car.

I've had Firestone Walkers Double Jack a few times in the last couple of weeks. It's around 9-10% and it's very good. They had a JabberWooky or something like that and it was a dark, I heard a lot of people liked it.

If you want to get a beer but don't want to head into Portland, the Dublin Pub has a decent tap list.

  • I'm surprised no one has pulled the Oakshire card yet. I like their stuff, the watershed and the Amber. I know the Espresso Stout is a big hit for people who like stouts-porters.

Wookey Jack (Black Rye IPA). I don't know if you Portland guys realize how lucky you are when it comes to beer. You can just head out to a pub that has local Oregon brews on rotating tap or head to Belmont Station and grab almost any other beer you could think of. Damnit! Ok, something like Heady Topper might be difficult to get.

  • Dang, this thread is making me excited to finally move out to the West Coast. Although I'm definitely going to miss easy access to Heady Topper and Bell's Hopslam Ale. Heady Topper in particular is even better than everyone makes it out to be. If you ever make it out to Vermont, it's a must find.

  • Make it down to the coast and try Fort George brewery in Astoria. Stacks up against any brewery I've been to. You can find it in 16oz cans in the Northwest. Cavatica Stout and Vortex IPA are the best canned beers. If you happen to make it to the brewery they've got some really good stuff. Their XVI Chapel is the best beer Ive ever had, but they haven't had it in a while.

The other one Id try is Belmont station. They have an annual "Puckerfest" that is actually the following week which has sour beers. Some excellent choices. You might see if they have an early preview around.

The Pacific NW is absolutely a micro-brew heaven. Even if you don't move out here you should visit just for that reason. Along with the fact that it's a beautiful part of the country.

Yeah. I prefer Oakshire to Ninkasi actually. There's a newer brewery in Salem called Gilgamesh that is pretty good. I especially like their beer called Mamba. Callapooia brewing in Albany makes some good stuff too.

Fort George in Astoria is excellent. Caldera in Ashland....so many!

Rogue's John John Dead Guy is on top for me right now. Its their normal Dead Guy aged in a Whiskey barrel. Its crazy good.

Where can I get some? Is it brewery only?

    WinTheDayDuck

  • There is a Rogue restaurant in Astoria OR that has all their beers. I dont know for a fact they have it, but they have 15-20 Rogue beers at a time.

  • Has anyone happened to try Ransom Spirits- Whippersnapper Oregon Whiskey?

I'm not much of a hard alcohol drinker but I just happened to be picking up a bottle of tequila and they had a booth set up with several local distillers creations.

It's about $25 a bottle and I think it's a good step ahead of Pendleton Whiskey.

I was just out at Ransom talking to Tad, the owner. He is also a wine maker and a barley farmer. Busy guy. Been trying to do business with him.

  • This goes against my better judgement by posting this on here, but Flat Tail Brewing out of Corvallis is doing some incredible beers. I had a Wild Amber Sour on tap that was phenomenal. It was aged 9 months in a Pinot noir barrel. You also have to try their Mustache Rye'd. The best rye beer I've had.

You just have to get past the Beaver aspect of their brewery.

Look forward to trying those. There is another brewery in Corvallis that was putting out some phenomenal stuff. I can't remember the name off hand. They had it at Vinti's in Salem. In case you are ever in Salem, Vinti's has a good selection of rotating taps. I think they have 30-40 beers on tap and any given time.

But yeah, you have to hand it to those Beavs. You can get a degree in brewing there.

You are probably talking about Block 15. They are awesome. A few of my favorites in Portland are Natian Brewing, Humble Brewing, and Coalition Brewing.

  • Stillwater Mythic Tradition Ale. It's a local farmhouse brew here in Baltimore. It is incredible!!! Definitely one of the top three beers I've ever had, but very spendy. It's $16 for a bomber, but worth every penny. You can't get it outside of the area. In Eugene I used to love getting growlers of Terminator Stout off nitro. Yummy!!! As far as beer you can get coast to coast I love Anderson Valley IPA and Mendocino Brewing Co White Tale Ale. But the best beer I've ever had in my life hands down is a microbrew on Nantucket called Whales Tale Ale. It only comes in bombers and four packs and it is absolutely mind blowing. The most active and alive beer I've ever tasted. You can literally see the actovity in the bottle. Thousands of carbonated bubbles exploding in the bottle before you even crack it and when you do open it thr head explodes from how alive it is. If you ever go to Nantucket I highly recommend you get yourself a Whales Tale Ale. You will never forget it. Trust me!!!

  • Highlife bottles or coors lite (aka C-) cans. Cold if possible. Either pairs nicely with a shot of well whiskey.
