OT: Your Personal Travel List?

  • Beer, BBQ, now travel. Although like me you could probably list a load of different places that you want to see/go in your life, what would be your like Top 3 to 5 destinations/experiences at the moment?

    1) For a "trip", Egypt, not just the Great Pyramids but all the major sites in ancient Egypt: Luxor, Thebes, etc. Also if I did that I would make a trip over to this island called Socotra, I just found out about off the coast of Yemen and Somalia. Then if I had the time and resources I'd head south to the Great Rift Valley in Eastern Africa.

    2) Great American Beer Festival - go down to Colorado for the week, and go to GABF. 500 breweries, 2000 beers enough said.

    3) Game at Autzen, never been...

  • Heading to Cooperstown and NYC on thursday for a couple of weeks, pretty excited about that!

  • 1) Greece. It would need to be a 3-4 week trip as I want to experience more than just the Parthenon or Mykonos :)
    2) Italy. See above
    3) anywhere warm with white sands and clear Waterford snorkeling with the kids.

Currently getting ready to head to Romania, Bulgaria, and Paris in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

  • 1. New York, and I'm hoping to go next year. I'm a freelance photographer and travel around a lot for the job. Haven't been to NYC. I have a feeling I'll love it.

    2. Europe tour, want to go to London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Venice, Milan, Berlin, Kiev, Athens and anywhere else. I want to check out lots of European culture, music, art, etc.

    3. Back to Japan. Haven't been in 11 years and I was only 16 back then. Experiencing it as an adult would be amazing. I want to check out Akihabara and also go to southern Japan.

  • One of my roommates in college has been to almost every country in Europe over the last few years. He taught English in Spain for a year before going to grad school so it was a great base. Ya benias in terms of a "trip" I'd want it to be about a month long, like I did down in Central America.

  • 1) Chile. I have friends that run a hiking/mountain climbing service. I'd love to fully experience Patagonia.

    2) India- I'm fascinated by other cultures and India has a long history of religions and culture that I'd love see.

    3) Colombia- Once known for it's drug cartels and civil war, things have really calmed down and improved. My uncle lives there six months a year with a friend of his that is doing an archeological study on ancient civilizations. He has a small scale farm. He describes the people as warm, compassionate, and community oriented.

Ya, the city of Medellin has turned around big time over the last decade, murder rate has declined precipitously and the city has improved many aspects.

  • I have absolutely zero desire to go anywhere in Europe or Asia, just doesnt interest me at all. I've traveled across most of the United States, Canada and Mexico and already see it. So the places i'd like to go:

    1. Africa. I would absolutely love to go on a true African safari vacation.
    2. Australia
    3. I've never made it to Ohio. I'd love to go and visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame and visit some of the roller coaster parks they have in the state.

  • 1) A 6-month tour of some of the Central/South American countries....particularly Peru (I want to hike the Inca/Machu Picchu trail before I die), Costa Rica, Brazil, Belize, Chile, and including the Galapagos Islands.

    2) Another 6-month journey of India and Southeast Asia including Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, and some of the Indonesian and Philippine islands. I'd love to go and see many of the Hindu and Buddhist temples.

3a) Alaska...I've always been so amazed by the breathtaking expanses of untouched wilderness there and would love to go and see some of it.

3b) I've been a huge Green Bay fan my whole life and would love to experience a late season, bone chilling game against the Bears on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.

I too love learning about and encountering other cultures first hand and love to travel...don't get to do it as much as I'd like. If I had the resources, it's all I'd do for the next 5-10 years of my life and go see the world and meet the people along the way. I did a 6-month backpacking trip across 16 countries in Europe back in the Summer/Fall of 2006. Was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. If I hadn't run out of money I would have kept going.

For anyone thinking of traveling to somewhere in Europe, I would HIGHLY recommend giving Croatia a serious consideration. I loved many of the countries I saw and for many different reasons, but if I had to choose only one that I could revisit tomorrow it would definitely be Croatia....beautiful country, friendly people, amazing food, a wonderful melting pot of many different influential cultures, and so many things to do and see. I'd easily go there again in a heartbeat if I had the chance.

I saw an episode of No Reservations a few days ago where he went to Croatia and Bourdain said the same thing. If you haven't considered it your missing out.

I'm in Vegas right now! I ain't goin back!

I just got back from the weekend in Vegas this morning. Too much fun. Ran into a few duck/blazer fans. Had a good convo with something I didn't think existed, nice husky fans.

Also had a good convo with some Wisconsin guys. They said they have a lot of respect for our program post rose bowl.

  • 1. Sardinia. Spent three weeks on Sicily and loved it - the finest, most intact ancient ruins anywhere, even past Greece. Incredible food plus friendly people. I hear Sardinia is just as interesting.

    2. Argentina/Brasil. Incredibly gorgeous and friendly women. Great cities (BA and Bahia) and beaches.

    3. Marrakech and Fez in Morrocco.

Lots of game park possibilities, some with more of a reputation than others. I was fortunate to visit Etosha National Park while visiting Namibia. It was towards the end of the dry season and the wildlife was concentrated near where they could find water. Looked like cattle feed lots except with all kinds of different wildlife. Was traveling with folks who had lots of previous experience with African parks. They all said they had never seen anything like it in any of the other parks. Never forget driving on a highway made of salt. All you could see for miles around was flat salt pan. Right in the middle was a lone giraffe with the characteristic slow gait --- probably headed for water somewhere over the horizon that only God and itself could guess at. Later, under a loan bush tree we saw a huge male lion. Looked like a big rhino. Felt like offering it a UO scholi to play front four.

A friend of mine goes down to Chile and Argentina for Kayaking and hiking every few years, he raves about both. He also goes to Costa Rica all the time, but says the other two far outweigh any place he's ever been, and like Cash, hes been everywhere!

Cooperstown is AMAZING. Probably my favorite vacation ever was once I hit Boston, NYC, and then Cooperstown and it was incredible.

  • I really, really want to hit up as much of Europe as possible, so it'll make up a lot of my top 5

    1. St. Andrews/Scottland: I'm a big golfer and playing at the birthplace of golf is probably the trip I wanna take most.
    2. England: I really wanna see London.
    3. Ireland: Being half Irish I want to make it there someday.
    4. Dubai: In pictures Dubai looks super cool, and I'd love to see some of that stuff in person. Although, the heat not so much.
    5. Brazil: I'd love to go to Rio de Janiero (sp?)

Places I've been that I wanna go back to
    1. Boston: Gotta hit up another Sox game someday
    2. Cooperstown: Such an amazing village, it's all baseball.
    3. Japan: I too went to Japan when I was younger (13) and now one of my friend's from high school lives there, so I'd love to see the night life with him in Tokyo.

  • Rio de Janeiro for the 2014 World Cup is my #1 right now. Would love to travel some of South America while down there.

I've never been out of the states, so Australia and South Africa also seem very appealing.

  • Europe: Normandy, Auschwitz, etc. I love history and Europe is rich with it.

Jerusalem: Would be pretty cool to see the holy land even though I'm not a real religious person.

Egypt: The pyramids definitely would be a very cool sight.

I would love to go back to the orient as well but my wife has no desire to go there so unless I get divorced I've probably seen all the Geisha's I'm going to lol.

Ya the historical aspect is what interests me about Europe. I think Auschwitz would be a really eerie experience. I mean the rail track leading up to the main gate, the gas chambers. Just the gravity of what happened there.
