Oregon coaches exchanged 400 texts w/ Lyles the past four years

All I know about John Canzano is he writes for a paper in Oregon. I figured he had some knowledge about what was taking place and simply reported what he said.

Most football fans in oregon would agree Canzano is a duck hater

  • I usually don't agree with much of the mean comments regarding Oregonlive writers but the ones I am reading on here regarding douchezano are dead on. I really don't care for the guy. I do like Ken Goe and John Hunt though. Some people were pretty brutal to Ken when he started doing video segments on the Ducks as they were on their undefeated run. Common theme was Ken "you have a face for radio". I felt bad for him at the same time I was laughing........

How did I back pedal? I never gave my opinion on what the guy said, I simply reported what he said. Because I'm not overly familiar with him as a person it means I'm back pedaling?

Anyway, here are a couple questions from Andy Staples after the new developments of the situation:

    • Is this really it? Because if the "2011 National Package" only covers four states, it still isn't much of a national package. It also has nothing to do with 2011. Not a single class of 2011 recruit was mentioned. Oregon still claims it can't parse which of the videos in its recruiting database came from Lyles.

    • Why does the material provided seem to contradict the description of the package given by Lyles himself in a Houston radio interview on Sunday? (Lyles did not return a voice mail Tuesday night.)

    • Why did Lyles wait more than 10 months after Oregon's check arrived to send the first batch of material? According to emails released by the school, the Louisiana and Texas spreadsheets arrived Feb. 17, 2011. The North Carolina and South Carolina spreadsheets arrived the morning of March 3, 2011, only hours before multiple news outlets published stories detailing the $25,000 payment.

Keep pouring it on buddy! We love having you here! Hope your day is now full of joy and happiness!

  • I am a huge Oregon fan but the more reports come out, the more fishy them seem to be. I just hope this case dosen't take years to do, hopefully they can determine an outcome soon. I have a bad feeling that Oregon will get slapped on the wrist so to speak. I really like Chip as our coach, hopefully he told or will tell the NCAA the truth, I'd hate to loose him or him having to resign like Tressel. Can't wait for the season to start though. Should be another great year for the Ducks.

  • Hey Trojan troll. Head back to your own board. People MIGHT actually care about your opinion there, because I'm pretty sure no one on this board takes you seriously.

haven't had a belly laugh like that in ages. phew! thank you!

I Googled John Canzano and he appears to be well regarded:

Canzano has won numerous Associated Press Sports Editors awards. In 2009, Canzano was voted America's No. 1 sports columnist by the APSE.

Canzano is a two-time Oregon Sportswriter of the Year winner.

In 2007 and 2008, the Associated Press named Canzano the nation's No. 2 sports columnist among large-circulation newspapers.

Canzano was recognized by The Press Club of Atlantic City as national sportswriter of the year in 2004.

In 2002, Canzano was named the nation's top investigative sports writer by the Associated Press News Executives Council for his enterprise piece on Carlos Rodriguez, a 21-year-old Dominican basketball star who was masquerading as a 17-year-old high school basketball player.

Were those awards presented by TMZ?

  • See you in the PAC 12 title game this year dynasty! Oh wait your school actually got caught breaking rules. Maybe make sure your own school plays by the rules before trying to make sure all other schools do.

If I remember correctly it was your school that started this explosion of NCAA probes.

    ducklefty

  • There is a difference between knowing someone, and knowing someone.

Yes Canzano has won some awards. But how much time have you spent listening to him and reading what he wrote?

Quoting some facts about his career is not the same as knowing his work. If you know his work, you'd never actually quote him as a impartial source. Canzano is his own agenda - IMHO.

    Canaduck

  • This is what Canzano has said in the last two days:

    Chip lied to the NCAA
Chip is defiantly standing up to the NCAA
Chip may not last the year (50/50)
Chip may have agreed to pay Lyles before Lyles left his previous job

And where did Canzano get this . . . out of his you know where.

Why is SC so obsessed with this story? They seem to read every article looking for incriminating nuggets. All that is out there is a tiny bit of information lacking any context . . . unfortunately, the media and our rivals seem to willing to provide their own context, as long as it casts us in a more negative light. They are just dying for us to be dirty. Amazing and sad.

While I don't think he should make definitive statements about these things yet, based on what we know at this point, he may end up being correct on some of them.

    6DyNasTy6

  • Anything is possible. And in this situation, contrary to the hermeneutic of suspicion, I'll trust until proven otherwise.

    Canaduck

  • And he may end up being proven incorrect as he has been in many, many previous occasions. But as long as you are only familiar with him in light of the many awards he lists on his site and wiki page, keep on hoping that he's right . . . because that seems to be what the Trojans want. Do you guys take turns at different sites posting the same articles that we have all accessed ourselves? I know my Oregon education can't possibly match what SC offers, but I do know how to find the same stuff you guys are posting everywhere.

What's this: "based on what we know" ? Like you're one of us? Last I remember you're an SC fan and WE are Duck Fans. So there is no WE, it's what you, as a beyond curious SC fan, would like to believe you know. You're not one of us and never will be and I still don't understand your fascination with this matter?

If and when the NCAA moves forward then WE will have something to talk about.

USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.
