Oregon truly is on the bubble

The Oregon Ducks sit at 19-8 and 10-5 in Pac-12 play and are truly on the bubble come NCAA Tournament time.

  • I agree with you on the 23-win mark Matt. I think winning the final three games plus one win in the Pac-12 Tourney gets us in. Hope they can get there.

  • I'm with ya MBG, I've always felt 22 or 23 is the new 20. That will do it for us, and I have no doubt we could put up a win or 2 in the tourney. Let's WTD and we will find ourselves in the dance.

  • I was looking at ESPN, Bilas has Oregon as #64, but not making it. He's saying we'll need to win the PAC tourney to get in. I'm not so sure that we have to win it. However, I do think we'll need to go deep in it.

Nah, getting a first round bye plus one win I think would do it.

We would be 23-9 and 13-5 in conference with no back to back losses and only one bad loss. Even in a weak PAC that is very good.

  • Even if we sweep the last three games that still might leave us 3rd/4th and level with Arizona in the conference. I think we have to get to the PAC12 tourney title game and get a signature win to get there (beating Cal or Washington) to get in. The tourney committee has never shown huge love for the PAC12 unless they are called Arizona or UCLA.

USC is like a german car, every piece that breaks is of the highest quality.

They've shown us love in the past. See the 2 seed in 2002 and the 3 seed in 2007.

  • I feel like Oregon will get an at-large bid if they win the rest of their regular season games, and advance to the tournament semi-final.

It's interesting to think that the last time Oregon made the NCAA Tournament, they had a conference record of 9-9, and lost in the first round of the Pac-10 Tournament.

  • Contrary to most, I really think the Ducks need to make the final of the tournament. Getting to the semi-final will involve beating a team that is no better than 5th in the Pac-10. One of the knocks on the Ducks is their two losses to Cal, the top team in the conference. We will need to show that we can consistently beat the other top tier teams in the league. This will not happen by beating Colorado, Arizona, UCLA, or Stanford. Rather, we're going to need a win vs Cal or Washington.

We beat Washington by 27 already. Beating Cal would be a plus, but the Doogs aren't going to really score us that many more points.

  • Ducks take care of business the rest of the season and then IMO get a win over Colorado/Stanford/UCLA in the first round and we are in the big dance!

I think the Pac-12's BCS rep is down but when the NCAA is looking team No. 2/3 from say the MAAC/CAA or the No. 3/4 from the MWC opposed to the Pac-12's 3/4 team the Pac-12 will win out over public perception.

  • I think that if the Ducks win the next 3 regular season games, they'll really be on the bubble--they'll still have a chance. But, if they then win one game in the tournament, they should be a lock. Winning two would mean beating either Cal or UW in the 2nd game. That should be a stone cold lock meaning that we lost to the eventual tournament champion. Of course, they MUST go 3-0 to finish the regular season.

  • Really guys, the way the Ducks CAN play and looking at the Washington win and narrow loses to Co and Cal, I really don't think we can be beat in the Pac 12 tourney. Maybe I am optimistic, but which team in the Pac 12 is really a better team than Oregon?

I would say Cal is probably better this year. Montgomgery is a hell of a coach and Gutierrez is a good player.

The Doogs are more athletic and arguably have more talent, but Romar isn't the best game coach. Similar to Ernie.

Yeah, we can certainly play with, and beat any team in the conference. The problem is.....we haven't.

I'm penciling in the civil war game in Corvallis as the biggest game remaining with Colorado being a close second.

For some reason the damn Beavers have had our number. I really hope we come in there and pummel them in front of their orange clad crowd.

One more regular season loss would greatly diminish or chances of making the tourney. It would be fitting beaver tradition to bank their season on ruining ours.
If we win out and win a tournament game or two, I honestly don't see us getting left out of the big dance.
