Wow, I didn't like the fact that Horton threw our #4 against their ace, he should of thrown Jake Reed our #2. You have to play for the win on day one. We got very lucky on the home cookin' call in the 9th. Hopefully we show up tomorrow and shove it to CSF.

At least since it didn't cost us the game, Reed can start game 3.

But it wasn't a good decision regardless.

Jeff Gold is our number three because Tessar is and has been unavailable since an arm injury. I would have preferred to give Reed the nod, but it worked out anyways.

You should give him some pointers. He's only won a natty

  • On the call in the 9th: I couldn't see if it was right from where I was, but I could tell that the umpire had a perfect angle and was all over it. Also, it didn't seem like the pitcher was arguing the call (or if he was, I didn't notice)

It was/is still a dumb decision, nothing like over looking the competition, that is when you really get in trouble.

To be honest, if they get that tag out, which was a bad call. You have bases loaded with two outs and 5-4, the infield would not be playing to cut off the run and the third baseman wouldn't have gone home with the ball, I highly doubt he makes an error going over to first with that groundout. We got very lucky. He also should of had Hambright bunt over the runner to 2nd after putting in the pitch runner in the 8th.

He was arguing it, he actually got into the face of the Ump to argue it. Matt Prehm said it was a horrible call, and he was clearly out, either through the tag or outside the baseline.

I can understand your sentiment but Horton has been around the block and in an interview was questioned about the Gold decision. He basically said you have to consider the big picture and take a calculated risk when assigning pitchers early on. No doubt that if you are wrong you could be done but that is part of the risk. Big picture. Big win today. It worked out. Sigh.

  • And because Prehm says it was a horrible call then it must be. Yawn!!! The beauty of sports, all kinds of opinions!

  • I spent Friday evening painting my stairwell. It's 6 am Saturday and I just read this post with all the comments. This was an enjoyable read. I could feel the pressure and excitement. I had no idea who won until reading. Thanks Max and everyone who commented. This was greatly appreciated. I Love Duck Territory and everyone who contributes. I look forward to the CSF game.

I'm just saying coaches do that all the time...if chip had beaten sc no one would have worried about him not using time outs. Sports are a gamble. Can't always play it by the book

  • I'm just chuckling at all the Beavis fans screaming over this and/or pretending to be Oklahoma fans.

    The obsession only gets worse.

The pitcher got in the umps face as soon as the call was made. He was very upset. The umpire was out of position because I think he expected the pitcher to throw it home. The Ducks are very lucky this game turned out the way it did. Avoiding the losers bracket for as long as possible is huge. My brother told me this morning that the sidearm pitcher must have been nervous because he is usually very solid with his location and was one of AP's most dependable pitchers.
