Agreed. Further, it is a good class so far. If you look at stars to deterimine ranking (which is a whole conversation in itself), in my mind you should look at average stars/player. We are 14th in the 24/7 rankings, 13th in Scout, and 10th in Rivals by this measure. About where we have been for our last few classes. I like this class so far, and am looking forward to fthe rest of the new Ducks! But what would recruiting season be without premature handwringing?

    POST OF THE YEAR!!!!!

24/7 ranking are completely misleading and incorrect (MSMs guys have quoted them many times and its very misleading) there is no way Oregon has the 70th ranked class in the country. At this stage of the game the only metric to look at is average star (which puts Oregon in the low teens taking the average) - I think its fair to guess UO completes the class with 50% 3*'s and 50% 4*'s which would put them right around 12-17 (basically the same type of class they got the last 3 yrs)

Who cares if we missed on some JC lineman - those guys are a dime a dozen (some produce most don't) - we can load up on those types any yr. Everything will be fine...

Stubborn because he doesn't do what you want? Doesn't that make you stubborn? I could care less if Chip was the most stubborn arrogant prick out there as long as he wins. And win he does

  • Wow, this site has gone quite mad. It's like a civil war. Brother vs Brother. Alot of judgement being passed on simple opinions. Alot of bias hoopla. Alot of denial. How about people start respecting eUachothers opinions a bit more. U

Respect. Not to be confused with agreement. Nobody has to agree with others opinions, but at least respect their opinions. The board is divided over two extremes of the spectrum with a minority who choses a grey area. I myself am a grey kind of guy, but I'll admit I get irritated with how things are going on the cuiting' front sometimes and sometimes I am overly passive and say "trust the process. The staff knows what they're doing."

I agree with some of the posters who get pissed about how the staff does their thing and I agree with the people who put all their trust and faith into the staff. It is possible to see truths in both arguments.

But the clicky, back and forth bs is petty. It's become religion vs science on this board and I've noticed certain little clicks on both sides literally competing with the other. Lol.

I personally see both sides and don't look at it as a matter of chosing sides. I like kicking back and laughing at all of the nonsense and how peole chose to take their stance so seriously. Time for Kudeta up in this mess. Who's with me??????

There is a difference between getting pissed and having a discussion, though I have disagreed with some of your post, and back in quak right now, I have never once down voted either one of you guys, saying that it means I have a level of respect, that's what a discussion is, if it was at the level of me being pissed and not respecting, I would be throwing out down votes

Woah. A bit defensive. Lol. Just pointing out some things I've noticed. I didn't say any names in specific. Relax brother. We're all Duck fans.

Okay. No offense man, but if you're going to say I'm fathering you then you really need to take a step back. Once again, did I mention you specificly in my post? Nope. So, again you're proving to be defensive. If I'm taking the paternal role then I guess that means you're taking the unruly teen who lashes back role :)

  • All the arguing aside...

I think there is a balance between trusting the coaches and being concerned that targets are going elsewhere.
If the Ducks offer somebody....they want them. Sometimes things like grades will come up and disrupt things, but usually if they offer, they would like the kid to come to the U of O and play some football. Stars are irrelevant. The coaches do a great job of evaluating talent, and knowing who they want and don't want. Sometimes a 5* player will come by wanting to come here, but their attitude or their grades prevent them. I can understand why we wouldn't want to offer such a player.

However, I think its a problem when some top targets go elsewhere. Kids we have offered and told that we REALLY want and can use. It isn't a matter of not going after the right or wrong talent...its about not bringing in the kids they want. They are always going to be kids who like USC better, or UW better or Cal or UCLA etc etc. The list goes on. But Oregon is a very popular team, and lots of kids want to look at us. But what is missing? What is preventing the top recruits that the coaches want from coming here??

Its just a question more than a complaint for me. As I said, there is a balance. Be concerned, but not too concerned. Trust the coaches, but recognize they are human and can make mistakes.

It was worse last season actually. The "sky is falling" posters were going nuts during the Cal-gang crap. As for the original post, I 100 percent agree. We've picked up some elite core pieces for the future, and the Oregon coaching staff is still in on a number of great prospects.

Here's my "opinion" on the Stanford game. The Ducks were in a position to win, a player made a mistake. If the kick was made the game woulda been won, and nobody would be talking about the play calling-period. Was he stubborn in the Stanford game? Maybe, it's called a game plan, which you are I do not get the privilege of seeing. If he is as stubborn as you think he is then why is he one of , if not the best, half time adjuster there is. I'm sure Chip knows what went wrong in that game, and what he did wrong. If that's your definition of being stubborn, then I guess he has been stubborn 7 times in his 4 yrs with the ducks.

  • I honestly feel that negative recruiting is a big cause for some of the results thus far. These kids are being hammered with "Kelly is gone for sure and they likely won't have the same success once he's gone, etc." They're also getting hit with "likely sanctions" bit as well. Couple those 2 bazookas with a small class, low # of offers, and a staff that isn't into pleading and heavy salesmanship, well there you have it.

p.s. don't forget the "Oregon's system won't prepare you for the NFL" and "do you really want to practice and play at that pace?"
