Top 25 Reasons to Dislike the SEC: Oregon Fan's Perspective

  • Top 25 Reasons to Dislike the SEC: Oregon Ducks Fan's Perspective - Yahoo! Sports

From Yahoo! Sports: As a football fan of the Oregon Ducks tasked with describing the team's main rival, my thinking drifts away from what might be expected. Conventional wisdom might say the Oregon State Beavers, or the USC Trojans, or perhaps the Washington Huskies. I think that in Oregon's recent history at least, the biggest rival has been the entire SEC.

Why is he crying about Dallas being closer to LSU but doesn't mention that the NC game against AU was in Glendale, which was much closer to Eugene? Even with the game being out west Auburn fans outnumbered Oregon fans at least 3:1. Why does the SEC need to come to Oregon anyway? They aren't the ones with something to prove.

Any time someone mentions the civil war in relation to the SEC's dominance it is a sign of envy.

He whines about the NC game last year but fails to mention that all Oregon had to do was beat USCw or Stanford and they would have played a rematch against LSU. I doubt Oregon fans would complain about a rematch if they had been in the game.

    Um......We did beat Stanford.

And it was a whopping 400 miles closer from Eugene than Auburn. Not much different

I stand corrected then. It still stands that if Oregon had gone undefeated except against LSU then they would be in the NC game. Whose fault is it that OU didn't run the table?

closer is closer. why does anyone have to come to Eugene? If more Oregon fans would travel to neutral site games then no one would have an advantage. If Oregon fans won't even go to the National Championship game then there is no hope for a regular season game. That blame rests squarely on Oregon fans.

I don't think you'll hear many Oregon fans arguing that we should have been in the NCG last year.

As far the traveling goes, Oregon fans generally travel pretty well for the size of the school. It would have been nice if we could have had more fans in Glendale but it is what it is. You guys won by 3. Good job!

The game against LSU wasn't neutral. It was a few hundred miles from their campu, a few thousand from ours.

It just seems like a self respecting team would be willing to do a home-and-home. That's fair isn't it? But no---Georgia signed up to do one with us but later backed out of it.

Kudos to Tennessee for (so far) upholding their end of the bargain. They are scheduled to visit Eugene next year.

    It's UofO not OU too.

Auburn only has 1000 more students than Oregon yet Oregon was outnumbered AT LEAST 3:1...... I would venture to say that AU had more fans there without a ticket than Oregon did total

but back to the original article, I guess if yo can't beat them then whine, cry, and try to insult them

  • One problem is that our Athletic department didn't order enough tickets. There were NO tickets on sale to the general public - season ticket holders took them all. Plus you can drive to Dallas easily from Baton rouge and if you do fly, it is a lot cheaper. By time you figure airfare and tickets the LSU game was very expensive. Couple that with having to get tickets (if you weren't a season ticket holder) on StubHub and it just was not affordable for a lot of people. When you talk about students - how many students actually went? Most of the Auburn fans I saw were not students.

nobody's whining except some idiotic crybaby on yahoo. you guys (y'all?) clipped up in the NC game, LSU beat us more convincingly, and the SEC undoubtedly is king of the hill right now. facts are facts. as for alleged "people" complaining about tigers/war eagle confusion, wasting toilet paper, freebird (how can you hate freebird?), and southern weather (???)... come on now, that's ridiculous. i'll bet gregg doyel wrote that drivel.

but if Duck fans aren't willing to spend to go to games then don't complain about not having a home field advantage at neutral site games.

for your lifestyle to be so healthy why do your players keep getting whipped by fat, unhealthy southerners?

Ask Tennessee and MSU how they feel about that. Congrats. You won a 3-point game. You sure whipped us. Nice season last year by the way. Not as easy when you don't have a $180K QB.

Look Buddy, you are on our board, and everyone here has been more than respectful. I suggest you have a little class and quit being belligerent for no reason. No one here has suggested that the original link is anything but senseless drivel. That said, you've called us whiners and disrespected our football program. The only reason I don't like the SEC is because of back water morons who claim their allegiance to the schools in that conference. No whining, or excuse making, I just don't like stars and bars flag waving red necks who don't have anything in there life worth talking about than the football team from a school they never actually made it in to.

Now you're talking about Alabama, not Auburn.

  • I just got back from Texas - 103 plus and high humidity. I honestly can't see how anyone can live in the south. And I really don't see how all those kids can do two a days or even hold practice in that kind of weather. Guess you get used to it, but wow, I'll take the NW anytime.

  • I'm a trolling USC fan but have to say it's a joke how the SEC gets all this love. IMHO Oregon is tough to play during the season when you only get 1 week to prepare. The losses for Oregon of late have been early season big games before the offense really gets into sync then all of a sudden the offense is unstoppable. Like to see LSU OR any of those other over hyped sec teams play in Oregon they'd get smashed. I do believe the new playoff format will benefit the PAC 12 there's no way either USC or Oregon get left out of the playoff system anymore with the chance both make the playoffs.
